Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls at stops and low erratic idle speed and rough idle, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Dear Dennis, I am having the same problem with my Mitsubishi Lancer 2002 model. The Mechanic ran through everything in the car and can not figure out what the car is stalling at take off and giving a rough ride. also the ABS light stays on. - i believe this is another issue that is not related to the stalling. but i can not be sure. do you believe that the above solution will solve the same problem i am having since this a a different make of car.

Extremely rough idle and car cuts off

run the fault codes first
indicates either injectors/low fuel pressure or crank/cam position sensor problem

Wagon cuts out slow speed

Sounds like vacuum leak or maybe Idle Air Control Valve. Only cuts out at low rpm only?

When the car is driving it cuts back several times, sometimes if idleing it sounds like it may cut off, what would cause that?

This is the LT1 engine that's used in the Corvettes - I have an LT4 Vette from that year, and may be able to give some guidance here. Please answer some questions for me:

Does the cutting off you're talking about (when driving) happen when you hit the accelerator? Can you go really slow and it works ok? Does it idle relatively well, except when you hit the gas a little? What RPM's does it seem to cut off (driving or idle)? How many miles on the car? Do you drive it daily, if not, how long has it been sitting? Is the car garaged? What maintenance have you/previous owners performed in the past?

Kia Rio cutting off

im assuming that changed the oil unit you mean sending unit ? if so could be electric short in the pick tail or worse wiring harness. second there is also possoble vacum leak .third while unit was being replaced something didnt get put back or got knocked loose. created a new problem. most times as thing are going bad they dont register until it is a prolonged problem as it took 2 days for the check engine to go out that also might have been normal. you might also notice while sitting at park when you turn the wheel you will notice ia differance in the idle, if its almost stalling then its probley your idle, needs re set, or your idle controle valve is going bad ,did it get checked or cleaned when they serviced the throttle body. and also could be your mass air flow sensor going bad or need cleaned

Cold or warm idle is rough

You should look for a vacuum leak. A sucking sound, The computer cuts the ignition briefly to slow the engine down and then turns it back on.

VW Golf MK3 1996 P - Car cuts out when slowing down. Battery and Oil lights come on. Restart the car then starts juggering. Its not a fluid purring from the engine.

i would start by cleaning out the throttle body. they collect soot and not have to be a lot either for it to mess up the idle speed, i had trhis on mine soon as i dipped the clutch to slow down the rpm dropped to about 400 to stall, i cleaned throttle body out ( taking air intake off and wipe round inside and the butterfly will be enough) and now it idles and the rpm dont drop below 900
