You can use Prestone or any other good quality coolant that is for aluminum.

Is it normal for the temp gauge to run at 3/4 mark

No it is not normal for the temp to go to that level and stay there. The engine is overheating at that point and there will be a problem with the cooling system and it will likely get worse than it is now..

The first thing to do is check the coolant level in the cooling system when the engine is cold because if the coolant level is low the coolant temperature will increase. If it is low then the system needs to be checked for coolant leaks, external and internal. You will need to top it up and ONLY use the correct coolant as specified by the manufacturer for your car. Mixing coolant types will cause even more problems.

IF the coolant level is at the correct level there will be another issue with the cooling system that needs to be addressed such as a thermostat that is stuck partly closed and needs to be replaced, a partial blockage in the cooling system that is retarding coolant flow, a failing water pump, radiator cooling fans not switching on (which you can check yourself ) and other possible causes.

Do not delay in having the car checked by a competent mechanic and the causes of the overheating identified. You can do very expensive damage to your engine if you drive the car when it is overheating costing multiple times what it will cost to fix the current issue which might be as simple as needing to replace the thermostat.

My car overheats even after you drive only 5 kilos. What could be the problem

two liquids regulate temperature i the car - oil and coolant. you need to check both, as you did not bother to think and provide us with manufacturer, model, fuel type and year, only general info can be provided.

oil - check level and change/top up as required, if change required - change oil filter as well while you are at it. change for type of oil required for your vehicle, oil and filters should be changed every 5000km (3500miles) to 10000km (7000miles), this depend on the condition, driving and age of the engine.

coolant - check level, top up f required.

if oil level is correct, and no loss in coolant either, you need to check coolant flow, start investigation if pump belt is not too lose and tension it if required, cannot do that if pump is driven directly from the shaft. check for thermostat problem and change if required, lastly - check radiator flow and reverse flush if required.

if you are flushing radiator - best is to flush block and heating system as well at same time, drain liquid and re-fill with new coolant.

hope this will help you at least a bit - do not forget to vote... :-)

Transmission whines when cold and shifts on the edge

Sounds like it maybe slipping, try checking the transmission fluid level and add as necessary to full mark of near full mark, which is in the operating range, could do what I did with my windstar minivan, add in the Lucas Transmission Fix, for your Ford Taurus you'll need Mercon ATF ( Automatic Transmission Fluid ) unless its a manual transmission or differently specified which then will need different fluid, check the owners manual, repair manual or phone Ford and ask them for transmission fluid type. Keep in mind that the wrong fluid type in transmission and or wrong amounts ( overfilled ) or ( underfilled ) can affect the transmission's proper operation.

Also check your coolant, when coolant level is low the light will come on the dash cluster and add as needed, Fords usually use the green coolant, green colored coolant or could use the universal type coolant. Check the owners manual, look in a repair manual or ask Ford technician for the coolant type.

The low coolant light on my 2001 BMW 325i came on today, but only when the heat was on. Once I turned the heat off, after a few seconds-up to close to a minute- the light went off. What kind of coolant...

The coolant type is not the issue but It seems there is a LOW LEVEL OF the COOLANT. Allow the engine to cool down and check the coolant level in the overflow/reservoir tank. If low you need to top up the coolant in the tank. Also check the pressure cap of the radiator, replace if there is low level of coolant in the radiator.
However if the coolant looks murky or rusty then it is best to flush out the coolant and refill with the specified type.

Coolant level low light comes on and coolant level is not low in reserve tank or radiator.

There is a TSB for this problem. Here it is.

Bulletin No.: 04-06-02-007

Date: August 11, 2004

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Low Engine Coolant Level Indicator Always On (Diagnose Low Coolant Level System Operation/Check Sensor for Oil Contamination)

Models:
2000-2002 Buick Century, Regal
2000-2001 Chevrolet Lumina
2000-2002 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo
2000-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix
2000-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Condition

Some customers may comment that the low engine coolant level indicator is always illuminated.

Cause

The cause of this condition may be due to engine oil contaminating the coolant. Possible sources of oil contamination are internal engine leaks, improper service procedures, or the addition of some types of anti-leak additives to the cooling system. Once in the coolant, the oil leaves deposits on the level sensor creating an insulating film. This film results in a false activation of the coolant level indicator.

Correction

Diagnose low coolant level system operation and check the sensor for oil contamination using the procedure listed below.

Important: No coolant supplements should be used in GM cooling systems, other than what is approved and recommended by GM. The use of "aftermarket" over-the-counter sealing and cooling supplements may affect the operation of the low coolant level sensor. Discoloration of the coolant recovery bottle is normal and does not necessarily indicate that coolant contamination is present. Flush cooling system only when instructed by this bulletin.

1. Verify that the coolant is at proper level in the radiator and the coolant recovery bottle. If the coolant is low, add proper amount of 50/50 water and DEX-COOL(R) mixture. If the low coolant light operates properly, diagnose the cooling system for loss of coolant as outlined in SI. DO NOT proceed further with this bulletin.

2. Remove the low coolant level sensor. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement in the Engine Cooling sub-section.

3. With the key on, the engine off and the coolant level sensor disconnected from the vehicle wiring harness, observe the low coolant light:

^ Light is on - Chassis wiring or instrument cluster concern. Follow the appropriate diagnostic information in SI.

^ Light is out - Proceed to Step 4.

4. With the key off, connect the coolant level sensor into the vehicle's wiring harness. Connect a ground wire (1) to the battery negative terminal. Using a sharp probe (3) attached to the ground wire, ground the coolant sensor probe (2) as shown in the illustration. Make sure a good contact is made. With the key on and the engine off, observe the low coolant light for at least 15 seconds.

^ Light is on - Replace the low coolant sensor and re-check system operation.

^ Light is out - Proceed to Step 5.

5. Using a small wire brush or emery cloth, polish the low coolant level sensor probe to remove any film or oxidation. The probe should be a bright brass color when finished. Use Brake Parts Cleaner to flush removed deposits from the low coolant sensor probe. Re-install the low coolant sensor into the vehicle and proceed to Step 6.

6. Flush the cooling system and install new DEX-COOL(R) mixture as outlined in the SI. Check the vehicle's warranty history to determine if any engine gasket had recently been changed. If there has not been a recent gasket replacement, locate and repair the source of the engine oil contamination.

While driving last night my car noticed that a red light came on briefly and it displayed "Engine coolant is low." My question can I go to a non- Jaquar repair shop to replace/fill the coolant or must I go...

You Can go to a non jaguar automotive supply shop, But be carefull to put the right coolant in, there are two types of coolant lim green in color and red you will need the red type. Fill up to the stated level on the expansion bottle and your away.
Hope this helps

My 2000 s type heater does not get cold it blows out cold air

sounds like you have an air bubble trapped int he coolant system. Check coolant level in radiator and degas bottle. Make sure degas bottle cap is tight so it doesn't **** air in. This system is different than coolant overflow bottle.
