2006 680 honda rincon stuck in third gear any suggestions. check shift sensors seem to be working.

I unpluged all wires from program under the front cover by the handle bars waited a
few min. and repluged all harnness back to program box and worked just fine

    I don't know how old this post is but if you are stuck in a gear ride down the road and keep switching between Auto and ESP and leave it in third gear after you stop before shutting off make sure you are in auto. Kill the power when you start it and select ESP ( where you can shift) it will be in 1st again :)

2007 420 Rancher ES. Why is it stuck in 3rd gear and seems to be flashing a code of 12?
Most transmissions go into a fail safe mode to prevent damage to transmission but you can still damage it if you keep driving it. Most related codes are due to speed sensors. But you will have to look up what the code means exactly.

Gear stuck third
It is probably the transmission. With the wheels off the ground rotate the wheels back anf forth. While trying to shift transmission out of gear. If that does not work try removing shift linkage and try to move individual shift levers to try and unjam transmission. If all else dails replacement may be the answer. Hope this helps.

Have you checked for a kill-switch problem? I just did, and appears to be a few likely culprits, kill switch, or wiring harness issues. Do a google search for "honda rincon kill switch". First 4 or 5 items were all full of good ideas to research.

Why wont 1994 1100 shadow shift out of third gear
Change the gear shifter 2 teeth UP or DOWN.
Otherwise, these models are known for problems with third gear (gear dogs and shifting fork get worn out, hard laser welding is a solution)

The shift solenoids, mounted on the front, outside of the transmission, are bad or need cleaning.

TRANS STUCK IN 3RD ON A DODGE CARAVAN 2000
The mechanic should check the third gear of the transmission . And the shift gear check the shift gear too for why it stuck while on the third gear. if the gear is worn out or destroyed then replace the third gear.Then also look and check the oil seal to make sure the problem is solved. then check and adjust the shift lever sleeve so that it will not stuck.
