My Quad bike won't start!

The lights on the dash go on when I turn on the ignition, but when I press the starter button, there is only a clicking noise from a covered area near the battery (don't know enough about engines to be more specific!). There is no engine activity at all. Some petrol overflowed when I filled the tank yesterday, not sure if this is related. Help please! Model noted below not accurate, but I had to fill in something to get this posted.

Dear honda cr250 the clicking sound you hear is the starter solenoid, your battery is likely low on charge test with volt meter should read 12.7 volts if it is good. also check for dirty batt. posts ect. hope this helps jim

Bike won't start, new Harley battery, and starter bike 2006 FLHX Street Glide, all I get is a clicking noise from solenoid under seat

I'm not too familiar with the later model bikes but if I were getting a clicking noise under the seat and the bike was not starting, I'd investigate the source of the noise. It's possible that it is a starter relay that engages the solenoid that is an integral part of the starter. Look at the starter from the right hand side of your bike. You'll see a single small wire that connects to the end of the starter just above the end plate of the solenoid. Disconnect this wire and connect a test light or volt meter to the wire. Turn on your ignition switch and press the start button. You should hear the click under the seat and see voltage at the end of that wire. If not, replace the relay, a plastic cube about an inch in dimension.

Good Luck

Hi, bought my son a kazuma meerkat quad 50cc 2010 model electric start, unable to start the quad with the electric start? when ignition on & start button pressed selonoid clicks once & a sometimes...

I had the same problem. My positive wire would arc with the key off when connecting the battery showing a short somewhere. I disconnected the regulator/ rectifier, (where the #16 positive lead from the battery goes to), and it quit. I found a new one on e-bay for $9.90 after shipping and it corrected the problem. Check to make sure your positive is not arcing with the key off. Hope this helps.

I turn ignition on lights and dash light up ,then press start button and only get a clicking noise ,the bike will not turn over.

Your batter is weak or defective. Try charging the battery with a small (1-2 Amp) battery charger overnight, or using jumper cables connect another 12 V battery and try starting the bike.

Suzuki 250cc quad bike wont start, just clicks when you press the start button anyone got any ideas

Three causes:

1: Dirty battery terminals

2: Battery is flat or dying

3: The starter motor is dead and all that is happening is the solenoid is clicking in and out

Starting fault

There are two safety switches that you may need to test. 1) Neutral safety switch- this switch is what tells the bike that it's in neutral and allows the starter to engage. 2) Kickstand safety switch- this switch will not allow the bike to run in gear if the kickstand is down. My initial guess is the neutral safety switch. If the neutral safety switch is bad, then you will not be able to start the bike with the kickstand down because the bike thinks that it's in gear (even if in neutral). This also may explain why the initial intermitent problem of not starting when warm since the metal contacts will expand and possibly not make contact when warmed up. Are you trying to start the bike with the kickstand up or down? If it were the kickstand safety switch, the bike would probably start okay and then die when you put it in gear.
