Simple question I'm sure... but I can't find the fuse that controls my rear brake lights on a 2003 Nissan Xterra. Back story: While hooked up to a trailer last night, both my turn signals and my rear brake lights stopped working (but the brake light in the center of the rear door still works). The headlights and tail lights still work. I found the fuse for the turn signals, it was blown so I replaced it and now now the turn signals work fine. But I haven't been able to find the fuse for the rear brake lights... Any tips? I found a fuse for the 'Stop Lamp', when I remove that the rear door brake light stops working, so I know that fuse is still good. Also because the rear door brake light works, I know the brake sensor is working. I opened it up and looked at the bulbs and they looked fine... and it would be weird if they both burned out at the same time... Thanks in advance! -sam
Hi, you need to test if the power is coming to the plug for rear brake light. If the power is not there that is your first problems. Also may have earth wire problem.

I dont have a diagram but the brake light switch has to feed the turn signal switch, Either that wire has a bad connection, or the turn signal switch is bad. Jiggle the turn signal lever and see if the brake lights try to work.

The problem is the turn signal/headlight/hazard switch assembly on the steering column which the brake light wiring runs through. The part is easy to change and cost about $50 at most parts stores

if the fuse was blown the stop lights on both sides would be inop, also if the stop light circuit were dead u would be unable to get the trans out of park, use a 12 volt test light and test the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal, u can buy a test light from Autozone, kragen and others for about $5 US. If the system has power cjheck the bulb socket it may be defective, use the 12 volt test light while someone pushes the brake pedal. let me know what u find and i will give u further assistance as ness.

check the wiring from the tailights back to the fuse panel, it sounds like an open connection. if i recall correctly check under the dash on the drivers side near the fuse panel for a bunch of wires in a bundle and look carefully for a wire or two that are cut/shorted/or seperated, you can also check under the drivers side kick panel by the hood release.

I have a 2000 ford focus no brake lights. with the brake lights the transmission would not go into drive .replaced the brake light switch checked fuse replaced turn signal switch with no results then i moved onto the wiper switch and replaced it as much to my supp rise it fixed the problems

HI yes you can test that put the car ignition on someone press the brake for you use multimeter or test light much better. If not may earth wire broke.
