You might have a bad voltage regulator that killed the battery, how long did it run? Was it on a high idle(choked)?

2001 V Star 1100 won't start. Engine cranks but won't turn over. The problem started when one cylinder quit. I have cleaned the carbs and jets, adjusted the floats, checked to make sure that fuel...

Hi,

Thank you for contacting fixya.com

You might also want to think about draining the tank and filling it with fresh fuel. Rather than stripping the carbs down I would just open up the drains and let the old stuff come out (use something to catch it). I think I might also use some jump leads and connect it to your (non-running) car's battery to help with the initial cranking. Also try the kill switch.

Also check this links to get helpful information related to the issue as to the bike engine cranks but won't start:-

Hard to start when hot

Turn off fuel petcock before you shut down bike. Let idle for a couple minutes. When you restart leave fuel petcock off until it fires. This works for me when its really hot outside. 2007 VSTAR 1100 classic.

Can a voltage regulator/rectifier if not working properly blow the main fuse. I have a 2002 v-star 1100. I was riding when all of a sudden the bike died on me. I lost all power no light, turn signals,...

YES!
Good link here:
http://www.flygenring.dk/yamaha/artikler/1100ChargingSystem.pdf

Symptoms:
Lights flickering at times and/or battery gets hot to the touch

Problem:
Reglator/Rectifier

When the regulator dies, it allows as much as 19 volts to appear across the battery. This is not good. It will cook the battery and the battery could even explode. Fuse can not stand up to this!
