My scooter is blowing alot of white smoke and bogging down.

It's a 2001 Twist N Go scooter, disregard the category below (limited options). It's a 49cc 2 cycle 1 cylinder engine. I just bought it and cleaned the spark plug, it was very hard to start before that. It starts pretty well now, but is kinda tricky to keep idling and doesn't seem to be super zippy sometimes, like when I roll on the throttle hard. It's is blowing copious amounts of white smoke and black oil out the tail pipe. My guess is too much oil being injected, am I on the right track? Thanks for any help!

Yes it has a separate oil tank and the fairly useless owners manual calls for 2 cycle injection oil. Thanks for your help!

  • jagath711 Apr 03, 2009

It's blowing white to light blue smoke, NOT black.

I pulled the spark plug and cleaned it with a wire brush and checked the gap, it had good clean edges and after the cleaning the engine fired right up.

    My question was...

when a 2 cycle oil injected engine runs but is blowing alot of white smoke and black oil out the tail pipe, then what is out of balance?

Take it and run with it Cape cod bob! Best wishes.

does it have a seperate oil tank or do you mix in the tank?

If the smoke is black you need to lean the mixture with your mixture screw on the carb (below air intake) if it is white smoke needs more oil on the oil adjusting screw (below or above oil line ) tune it in until you have a good idling noise with back tire moving at a slow and steady pace and you should be able to stop the tire with your foot and spin it opposite direction with no interference after that's all done make sure your throttle line is taught with one of the two adjustments on the carb or by your handlebars it should take up any slack you feel on the grip then you're good to go I smell gas and oil but barley see them on my scooter and it runs very well on low and high end speeds but will vary in weather conditions

You can get low smoke 2 cycle engine oil, that will reduce the amount of smoke that comes out the tail pipe. The best stuff is Blue Marble.

That is all I know.

Honda gx620 on golf cart occasionally bogs down & blows enormous cloud of white smoke from exhaust.gas getting in oil also.runs great until this happens

What ussually causes white smoke to come out the exhaust is oil being sucked up in carb. Typical causes are too much oil in crank case or PVC valve. Or really bad piston rings

The smoke come alote frome the pointson pipe

White smoke in the exhaust once the car has warmed up may indicate a water leak into one of the cylinders. Pull the spark plugs and look for signs of water

You probably need a new clutch. That can explain why it bogs. The smoke I don't know.

Had exhaust manifold replaced since then my 2001 caravan bucks and blows black smoke little to no power

if you replaced the manifold because it was cracked the look for a plugged cat convertor..the cracked manifold was probably letting the exhaust escape..now it builds too much back pressure

Engine bogs big puffs of white smoke from front

the engine will bog because the cutting blades are either cutting to much grass or the blades are touching the ground making it hard to keep rpm's then it will smoke a bit

Rpm drops while adling causing 'grinding' sound while white smoke flows from behind or below radiator.

You should replace the cooling fan. With the ac on and no cooling fan, high pressure builds in the condensor and compressor bogging the engine down. When it gets too high a relief valve dumps and you get what appears to be white smoke. It's actually freon, hence the smell. I've replaced several PT cooling fans with the same symptoms.

Ajust speed

Yes, Unfortunately it is a technical solution, the twist grip speed control is a potentiometer (variable resistor) other then limited the amount the twist grip is turned , the only other way to limit the speed is to add a fixed resistor to the "top" end of the "pot", lets say you want a 10% reduction and you have a 1000 ohm pot you would add a 100 resistor to the "top" of the pot, if it doesnt work correctly change the connection to the other endof the pot
