SOURCE: 1986 Suzuki Savage loosing acceleration
I have been having a simular problem with my girlfriends bike. She complained about the bike looseing power or "bucking " as she calls it , at speed.Several "shops" have played around with it ,but none have solved the problem .She feels the bike is not worth spending any more money on ,so I have tackled it .
The first thing I found was that someone had put the wrong hose on the pet ****. To open the pet **** you need vaccum from the cylinder side of the carb. There are two other hose nipples on the filter side of the carb that I don't know where they go .If you know , please tell me .The vaccum helped but didn't solve the problem. So I took the carb apart , cleaned out all the jets . One was pluged.
Now I have to run the bike a little, then check the spark plug. I think I am getting close.
SOURCE: 1998 suzuki gsxr750 fuel pump inop after replacing filter
You cannot bleed the fuel injection system.Test the pump alone (not on the bike) for sufficient fuel supply. Also check the fuel pump relay.
If all that is ok next time you try to crank the engine (only with kill switch on, the fuel pump primes up) with lifted tank and opened air box, spray a bit of carb cleaner spray towards the throttle bodies. It will help.
SOURCE: my '86 suzuki savage won't rev up it just back fires
When I had my savage it backfired all the time. They are known for this. Make sure you fuel is not to lean. Just adjust the fuel. You should adjust that and put some sea foam in it or ethenol treatment since most of the gas is terrible these days. Running 91 octane will help. Also you will want to replace the muffler gasket too.
When you replace that it will smoke which is normal.
I sold mine but I know the bike pretty well from tearing it apart due to trying to fix it from not running properly. Let me know if you have any more issues.
