Firstly the 85 ltd doesnt have carbs its electronic fuel injection.
Could be the throttle postition sensor, vaccum lines running to the efi, or the banks need to be balanced. Simplest thing to check first is that your throttle cable is acutally pulling the throttle body wide open. Decarbonizeing the throttle body may help also. and I run can of sea foam thru my ltd about once every two months to keep injectors etc clean.

Try the easy method first. Run some seafoam through the carbs. Follow directions for mixing it into the gas.
If that doesn't work to fix it, it is time to pull the carbs and clean them meticulously. Don't be surprized if you have to rebuild them or replace a few parts. This could cost you up to $250 per carb.
Or it might cost you the price of a can of carb cleaner. If you have the money, or are too skittish have a pro do the cleaning. If you have a clue and like a challenge, there are many websites that explain to you how to clean your carbs.
Good Luck.

Have a 1985 Honda GoldWing limited edition 1200 the fuel gauge reads empty but is full of fuel .can anyone tell me what to look for ?

Hi, Jay you could have a faulty sending unit or gauge, there could be a problem with your wiring. On models with the fuel gauge posing as a left-hand fuel cap the gauge is a press fit do not try to unscrew it, simply ample force lift up in a rocking motion to remove gauge. Disconnect wires to the gauge and with a set of positive and negative jumpers from the battery connect the positive jumper and flash the negative, gauge should peg full, if not replace the gauge. With a test light check for power to the sending unit, then remove the sending unit and manually operate the float arm slowly with the correct wiring hooked up to the fuel gauge and sending unit and the ignition on, the gauge should respond accordingly if not replace the float arm assembly. If your fuel gauge registers the incorrect amount of fuel in the tank you can try bending the float arm the necessary amount for a more accurate reading. 1985 Honda GL 1200 Interstate Gold Wing fuel light comes on bike quits running

Hi, Jfrancismess and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, stator, magneto, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Faulty or corroded kill switch.
11. Accelerator pump damaged or not working.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
13. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
14. Fuel tank empty.
15. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked, loosen gas cap and go for a test ride.
16. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
17. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
18. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.
19. Petcock clogged or damaged.
20. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.
21. Catastrophic engine failure, perform a compression test.

Low charging on 85 goldwing fuel injection

The GL1200 Aspencade fuel injection did not come with fuel injection. But a lot of those bikes have been piced togather from outher bikes.

The entire 1200 goldwing line had stator problems. First thing to check is the 3 yellow wires and the connector they have just to the left of the battery. Most people remove that connection and soder it after testing the stator. There is a complete checklist, along with alternative solutions at http://www.gl1200goldwings.com/ If you own a 1200, that is the best self help site for these bikes.

Where is the tps located at on a 1985 goldwing limited?

It is on the left side at the top behind the rad , it has 3 small screws around it , they have heads that brake off when they are turned in to tork if you know what I mean . To get them out you need very small needle nose vice grips . The TPS is inside that cover.
If you need a new one , you can get one off a honda Civic Fuel injected car they are the same ,just the plug is not the same ,I did that with mine and it works just fine now !
