Fuel light stays on

I have a 2007 F650GS and the fuel light stays on all the time, empty or full.

There is a sending unit in the fuel tank that registers how much fuel there is. It is probably broken, giving you a funny reading on your gauge.

I had the same problem. My gas gage would read full and as I drove the gage would read empty; even when I had a full tank of gas. All I had to do is buy a new gas cap... yes that is all! $15.00 and a day later the gas gage is fixed.

Youre gauge is controlled by a plunger in the fuel tank which is attached to the sensor and the fuel gauge. it sounds like when the plunger goes down half way its either getting stuck down lower then it should. Needs replacing. Any mechanic can do this install for you.

Replace the fuel tank sending unit,you may have to replace the fuel pump assembley to do this,if the sending unit is not avalable by itself.

there is usually a resistor built into the actual guage that smooths out the signals from the fuel sender unit , not sure if you will be able to repair to this level , time and money might be better spent on a new gauge

Gas gauge indicator goes to empty when full
sounds like you may have a bad fuel level sender problem. as for the check engine light coming on and storing a fault code that is a separate issue.

I got a 2001 Chevy Venture and fuel gauge always stays on full
The problem is in the fuel sender unit in the tank. It sounds like the float part of the sender unit is binding when it's at the top (when tank is full) and hangs up there till it falls back down when tank is near empty. It will likely have to come out to be checked, fixed, or replaced. Good luck.

It could be a bad fuel gauge in the dash unit, but....
Usually it's "The bad".
The fuel level sending wipe arm and windings on the fuel sender wear and send erratic readings.The only cure is a replacement fuel gauge sender.
The check engine light should not be related to the erratic fuel readings.
"The good".
If you have over 200,000kms or 120,000 miles on your van you need a new fuel pump anyway,so have a complete assembly put in which will have a new fuel sender on it.

It would be nice to know why the service engine light came on and is still on. An auto mechanic can read the code for you, or a dealer, or some parts stores will sell a device to read the code that caused the light to come on.

The gas gage light is on when tank is full. reads empyt most of the time, it does fluxuate form time to time, but it mostly stays on empty with light on.

Fuel gauge keeps going to empty and warning light
in side the tank on the side of the pump there is what thy call a sender not to be confused with the sending unit. The sender is atached to the float and tells the gauge how much fuel you have.
