Just bought the bike. It has been sitting around for some time. I cna engage gears with the engine off but when I pull in the clutch the bike remains in gear!
Any answers?
my bike stays in gear when clutch is pulled in , there is tention in the cable as it should be. the problem just seemed to apear from no where i was out one night put bike away came out next day and it was like this.
i have had the clutch cover off looked at it had the plates out.
they seem fine ,but the plates are kind of sticking to the metal plates because of the oil , is this normal?
any help? thanks you
Ryan Dundas.
The plates will stick to each other because of oil
check the clutch lever at the motor and make sure it is moving the arm that pushes the pressure plate and make sure it is moving
With the engine off put the bike in first gear and pull the clutch in it should roll pretty freely if not tighten the clutch cable and try it again a transmission gear could possible be getting worn out

Lose the Honda transmission oil. It may have swollen the cork on the friction plates. Go with 10w40 in the gearbox. Any major brand; Mobil, Shell, Quaker State, Pennzoil, etc.. Try the new oil and give the cork a week to shrink back down > if they will. You may need to put in a new set of plates.

hi m8,,this might sound stupid,, but in winter dayz and salty conditions ,cables corrode in side,,so i can start some where to help,, 1st take the cable off the handle bar,, and the clutch casin,,get a little bit of oil in a jam jar or any thing like that,,dip one end of the cable in the oil ,and keep pullin and pushing the inner cable as if u were trying to draw oil up threw the inside of the cable ,, turn cable the other end and repeat,, try that 1st m8,, still have probs come bk, and il go threw the next step,,
SOURCE: what spark plug for yz 125?
Hey Ryan, I gotta say "told you so" on the trannie fluid. Go with NGK BR9ES. That is the plug that came in the bike when it was new. As to the clutch plates, you probably can't find just the friction plates. Clutch plates normally come in sets, < pressure plates / friction plates >. If you can find just the friction plates then go for it.
