There won't be another screw on your carb that looks like it.

What do both the fuel and air screw do on VM26 carbs?

The mixture srew sets the idle smoothness; too weak and it will misfire/hunt, too rich and it will sound like the choke is on.
The main jet screw sets the tickover or idle speed.

Hi I have an '81 yamaha virago 750,I don't know how to adjust the carbs,it getting too much gas and I was told I needed to close the gas off and open the air.....????

Below is a diagram. Turn the air screw inward until it lightly seats then open it up two turns. Set the idle speed with the throttle screw. The throttle screw pushes against a lever on the outside of the carb. From there, adjust the air screw for best idle speed. Do this for both carbs. Be sure the air cleaner is clean.

Wondering if anyone knows where the adjuster for the carburetor is located on a 2001 1200 Sportster custom

Unless the carburetor has been modified, the only adjustment is the idle speed. The Idle Stop screw is located at the upper right side of the carb. You may have to remove the air cleaner cover to access the screw. Clockwise rotation increases the idle speed. Adjust the idle speed with the engine at full operating temperature.

Idle adjustment screw came out. and i don't know much about motorcycles. i was wondering if anyone could post up some pictures on where it goes. thank you

I dont know how to get pics for you but I could basically tell you where they go.. now that bike has a rack of 4 carbs.. first to find the one that has a missing screw tou probally want to take them off the bike but all as one, dont seperate the carbs. turn them upside down because the screws are on the bottomfind the one that matches and replace it.. now there are a few parts to the screw you might want to take another one out to make sure everything is there

Back fires

Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).
Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

Get the engine warmed up then set the idle speed. The backfire, whether through the carb or the pipe is usually caused by a valve not fully seating. This can be because of a carbon buildup on the valve seat and valve face or the valve could be 'burned'. It is not much hassle for the shop to lap the valves to give a fresh face on the valve seat and valve face.

I have a keeway 125 bike new idle prob

Pull the carb off the bike and clean it inside and out. Be sure main jet is clear. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well. Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > > > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward.

Put the rest of the carb back together and install the carb. Turn the gas on to let the float bowl fill then start the engine. Chances are this will fix the problem. I suggest that you install an in-line fuel filter to prevent this happening again.

Last item> You should have just a little bit of slack in the throttle cable where it goes into the top of the carb. Not more than 1/16". Let me know how things turn out.

Please rate this solution as " FixYa " if all goes well. Thanks

I wanted to know how to turn down the idle on my 1981 XJ 650 Maxim. Every time I come to a stop in first gear the engine races. At first I thought it was the choke. I don't know anything about motorcycle...

hello
if you were to look upward under the carbs, about center between the middle two carbs you should notice a screw with a larger head on it. this is the idle adjusting screw. hope this helps.
