KDX200 carb float set up. Hi I have gas coming out of the float chamber overflow so obviously need to set the floats but would like to know how to do it without putting carb in and out of bike.
My 1998 KDX200 is acting like it isnt getting gas what do i do ?
If you have gas coming out of the overflow tube, you need to make sure the float valve is shutting the gas off properly. The float height would have to be awfully high to cause gas to come out the overflow. You might be able to do it on the bike but it's a lot easier to do off the bike. Pull out the float valve and inspect the tip. Make sure it is smooth with no evident nicks or deep grooves.
That's why it is mainly done off the bike. The float height is measured with the float just resting on the spring tip on the float valve, not compressed. Most of the time the weight of the float itself will compress the little spring tip if you try to do it with the carb turned upside down so I always turn the carb on it's side to where the float is hanging straight down and then slowly roll the carb until the float just contacts the spring tip on the float needle. That's where you measure it at! I have literally done hundreds of street bikes with 4 carbs and setting float heights is very important on these.

Float valve is fine and I know how to adjust the float valve I just dont know how to get the height correct without starving the bike of gas or having so much that it comes out of the overflow. i.e. should the valve be fully closed when the floats are exactly level?
