2004 Honda CMX 250 Rebel Logo
Posted on Apr 19, 2009

Clutch slipping just bought my wife a starter bike, 2004 honda cmx250 Rebel and the bike runs fine but the clutch seems to be slipping. It goes thru gears and shifts fine but as i accelerate it seems to slip. im 260lbs and used to riding a harley touring so could it be the weight and i did move the handlebars forward a little

Exactly the same. Used to my harley, and the Shadow 600 is obviously less power. It grabs for in the handle but only has 8000 miles on it. How can I tell if the clutch is shot? Cable adjustments are really not changing anything.

Bad news. a goodly amount of 2004's came out of the factory with faulty clutches.. there's been several efforts by rebel owners to get a recall on them, but no luck so far. hope that's not what it is, but bear it in mind if you find your top speed dropping.

I had the same problem with my Yamaha 650. Either the clutch cable is misadjusted or you are using the wrong oil. Since the clutch assembly and all that is built into the crankcase, you need motorcycle oil. Are you using motorcycle oil or regular automotive oil.

Im sure there could be more serious issues, but I would check these first.

Sounds like the clutch plates may be stuck together. Happened to me after a long trip in the rain and bike sat for a few weeks after that. Had to take the cluch discs out and clean them

1983 honda gold wing 1100 ,120,000 klm, runs great .When should one be doing a clutch change?

If you go easy on the clutch and do not pull a trailer, you may never have to replace the clutch. My GL1000 clutch has over 150,000 Miles (around 240,000 km) on it and works just fine

Where is the oil screen and how do you get it out of a 2006 cmx250 honda rebel

I think you will find it behind the right hand engine cover ( clutch cover ) gasket etc may be required for replacement.

Right then..... I have a 1995 CBR600 F3 and when I bought it the starter sounded a bit loud but worked fine. I got it home and the next day it started fine. After a couple of days it wouldn't start at all....

Have a look at this diagram of your starting clutch. If the starter is working but not turning the engine over, this clutch is not pushing the starter gear into the flywheel or the clutch is worn out and slipping, not turning the engine over.

Have zl 900 1985 model clutch slips bad replaced clutch and fluids everything apears fine new clutch acts the same way trans shift thru all gears fine acts like clutch cable to tight but its hyd clutch any...

It might have a "wet" clutch like my Yamaha which means that the clutch is in contact with the motor oil. If you use motor oils that have cleaners in them to remove gunk and all that bad stuff then it can cause your clutch to slip. I don't mind the clutch slip though it keeps the bike from popping a wheelie under hard acceleration :)

Clutch slipping while cold, when warm/hot, it operates great.

I have a 2000 Vulcan Nomad FI & had a very similar problem. In fact, it's a very common problem with these bikes. I fixed it by replacing the Clutch Spring. (As Described here: http://www.gadgetjq.com/clutch_spring_replacement.htm

It cost me $40 and 3 hours of time with an impact wrench.
