1984 FXRT; went to go on a run, got a few miles down the road ( good heat in the motor) and it started to spit/ spudded back fire. Limped home changed plugs and went for a 200 mile run with no issues. Fast forward 2 days, went to run up town,again starts great sounds happy to go. a few miles down the road (good heat in motor) dose it again spit/ spudder, backfires no power. Changed plugs again No Help.Trailer it home, go to unload it and notice fuel coming from the acceleration pump rod boot cover (cv carb). slapped a rebuild kit in it. Starts great wants to go down the road. Again same thing. Any help/ input to help keep this old girl on the road?

SOURCE: 1990 virago 535 starts and runs great for about 3 or 4 miles

Pull the float bowl caps off the carbs and then spray carb cleaner into the main jet and all other accessible ports on the carbs. Chances are there is a build up of water condensation in the carbs.

Easiest of all check that none of the rubber hoses that supply fuel are not kinked. Billy

Why does my 93 Honda Accord run fine and then dies going down the road and will start again and die again?
There is a black fuel relay way up under the top left driver side dash that breaks its main wire solder connections on the circuit board under over-heat conditions. Resolder that relay. Starting fluid will show that you have lost fuel delivery under no start conditions. You can use the breather hose from the valve cover for this test.

If it wouldn't start, you have to see if you are missing fuel or fire. Could be a bad sensor, or a bad fuel pump, or if the security light is blinking, a problem with the security system.

Air Bag Light, Brake Light, & ABS Light came on in the dashboard.
Check and see if your alternator is charging
Low voltage will cause those lights to come on, as the computer is shutting down.

To check your alternator you will need a volt meter... WITH the engine running you should have about 14 volts coming out. IF NOT you need to replace the Alternator!
