SOURCE: removing gas tank on harley flhtci

remove seat, remove console on top of tank, disconnect wiring from console to tank, disconnect vent line if present, disconnect fuel line on tank, disconnect fuel gauge (up under tank on left side, 3 wires, 4 wire connector, wires are yellow, orange, and black), remove bolt at rear of tank, remove two side bolts up front under tank (coil bracket is there also, carefully cut clamp on cross over hose located up front under tank.
This works better with three hands remove one side of cross over hose, fuel will flow freely so the extra hands are good at "plugging" the hose and the tank. Gently remove tank tilting front of tank as much as you can till you get it clear of the frame, while still tilted at a steep angle put the cross over hose back on.
To make things easier drain all fuel out of tank before reversing the process to reinstall tank. Hope this helps.

Car runs rough n stalls at times

fuel filter is bad or you have a dirty fuel tank go to auto zone get a bottle of sea foam and thats the name on the bottle fill your gas tank up to half a tank and pour the sea foam in the gas tank then drive it until you have refill it again now it will run rough after you put this in what its doing is breaking down all the trash and particules in the bottom of the gas tank and its clogging the filter after you do this replace the fuel filter and either way your solving the problem

My 92 saab runs fine with over half tank, but under half it acts like no gas.

Your fuel pump works better and last longer when the fuel in your tanx is more than half filled because it makes the fuel pump to be fully submerged in the fuel and it cools the fuel pump in that process.

BMW F650 FUNDURO 1994. My fuel filter (not that under carbs inside T connector-but the one after petcock a seethrough plastic one) delays a lot to be filled up with gas and as a result my bike shuts off!...

It sounds like a plugged vent on the fuel tank. There is a safety valve on top of the tank that should allow air in to fill the space where the gas was. A malfunctioning valve would cause the problem you describe. First, make sure the vent tube is not full of mud. If a vacuum is forming in the tank you should hear a hissing when opening the fuel tank. Opening the fuel cap when the filter is half full, and the bike is running, should allow the filter to fill up normally. If the the one way valve/vent on top of the tank is bad replace it with a new one(about $25). Another possibility would be a fuel pump malfunction. Open the fuel cap , unplug the lines going to the carburetors, place them into a cup, turn the cycle on, and see if the pump is pushing the fuel properly. If the fuel pump is bad it will run around $360.

Bike has been sitting without being started this winter. is it ok to start or better to have it picked up and serviced

There is no reason why it cannot be started, although you may have a bit of a difficulty doing this. As a precaution replace all the gas with fresh gas and try clear the carb/injector.

Rough idle, cruise control also stopped working

Sounds like you could have gotten some water in your fuel tank from that fill up. Go to a autoparts store and get a product to put in the tank that takes care of water in fuel. Use it when you fill the tank up a few times after and hopefully it goes away. Whenever you can't sustain power in the engine or it runs rough then your cruise control will constantly be shut off because the engine doesn't have the power to keep the speed up and should go away once your engine is running clean again.

Good Luck

The engine runs fine until it get to half a tank of gas.

I wonder if it could be that the tank's not getting vented properly... have you tried just taking the gas cap off and replacing it, without adding fuel? is there a suction sound when you take the cap off?

Engine runing rough

I assume this is a gas motor. MIL on? Any codes? See if the truck runs rough below half tank, but better with a full tank. If no change, there could be contamination in the fuel rail which lands in the tops of the injectors.

Running rough, no power misfiring

i had that problem once. when i got under half a tank of gas in the tank. What i did was i dumped one bottle of gas line deicer in the tank and i have never had it agian. you may have some water in the tank. from condasation or i have a stong feeling i got my water from the gas station. i was using the same station all the time. so i tryed another gas station and so far no more rough idleing which was caused by the water i think and i am getting better fuel milage to. i hope this helps.
