Wow! I noticed that for a while there was some loud squeeling

going on and then it went away.. perhaps you are right and

the alternator was under stress or something... Is there something

    else i could check for

    Thanks!

Did you charge the battery before you installed and ran the new alternator?

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2014

We just had the alternator replaced because the battery light was on and the battery light when off but 5 days later the battery light is back on and now the VTM-4 light is on.

The instructions for installing a new alternator usually read to fully charge the battery (12.3 - 12.8 volt range). Otherwise, the alternator will be damaged when it initializes. I have seen some extreme damage result from installing a new alternator with a low-charge battery. The torque required to turn an alternator when damaged in this scenario is unbelieveable!

I think we've discovered the problem -- the squealing is a dead giveaway -- afraid it's back to the parts place for another alternator.

It just dawned on me that you probably are asking is there anything besides the alternator which could have been damaged.

I think there is possible alternator belt damage from the excessive slipping.

Oh, yes, if you could respond with a "problem solved" rating, I would greatly appreciate it.

    thanks...

No, The problem is not the alternator, I replaced it with a new one two days ago and the one I replaced it for I had tested, its good.

My 2014 Honda accord has been running great... I had my oil changed about 3 days ago, today 2/26/15 no problems all day until I got home turned off car and probably 2 hrs later tried to restart and it will...

It could be your battery. It could also be your alternator, or just corrosion on the battery terminals. I would remove the battery and clean the terminals. Take your battery to a auto parts store. Most will check your battery for free. If your battery is not charged fully ( which is likely) they will have to charge it before testing. This could take a while. If the battery checks out get some battery terminal grease before you leave the store. Reinstall the battery using the grease. Drive the car up to the store and ask to have the charging system checked.
If you can get the car started. This entire procedure can be done at the store. But you would be running the risk of the car quitting on you somewhere on the way to the store.

When I turn my a/c on in my 1993 accord my battery light comes on.

check the out put of the alternator as it may be not charging sufficient to run everything. Check drive belt condition and tension. Have a load test done on the battery because if it has an internal problem ,then all the charge from the alternator will be shorted out in the battery

My Honda Accord wont start even with a jump. The lights come on but wont turn over. No click, no sound, no nothing

IT's those short drives that burn down a battery! The starting of an engine requires mucho electric to get it running. The alternator then charges the battery, but slowly! If you also have the lights and stereo on it is even slower. Get the battery FULLY charged with a commercial battery charger. Then check to see if the alternator is charging up the battery after you start it. If not, replace the alternator. If the battery dies overnight or in a few days...replace the battery.

Our 2007 odyssey the battery died after only one year. Bought new one now four days later car won't start again. We left no lights on or radio, not even the dvd player. What's wrong with this...

Battery might have died cause the altinator is not charging 14+V Please charge the battery, donot boost the dead battery. After charging the battery check the altinator output.

THE CAR LIGHTS WERE LEFT ON,NOW IT WONT START THE HAZARD LIGHTS COME ON BUT NO OTHERS I GOT A BOOST BUT IT STILL WONT WORK

It's possible that your battery has died. Depending on how old it is, they tend to last 4-5 years, anything beyond that and just replace the battery.

First thing to do is charge the battery overnight using a proper battery charger and try it again. If it won't hold a charge then it's likely time to change it. In the event the booster cables weren't hooked up properly you may have further electrical issues. Check all fuses and relays. Good luck.
