Ive cleaned the carbs and spark plugs fuel pump isn't a year old it will go 2 to 3 miles then dies it starts back up after a min or so with the choke and after it starts back runs fine it will sit and idle and rev up with know problems at all only dies when going down the road
It could be any of a dozen problems, but it sounds like that year old fuel pump. It could be a loose wire killing the pump or even vapor lock. I would start with testing the pump under pressure.
Testimonial: "thanks for the suggestion I will try to test the pump tomorrow ill let you know how it goes"

Your float in your carburator is stuck closed due to old gas or if your bike is fuel injected then it is likely clogged fuel injectors. Check you spark plug for spark first and if all is good, start working on cleaning the fuel system.
To start ensure that is not a carb problem, and that the engine is not chocking because of incorrect carburetor settings. The carb should also taken apart and cleaned.
Try also running the engine without fuel tank cap, if engine runs fine replace the tank cap.
if carburetor, fuel filter, tank and fuel lines are ok it may be a faulty fuel pump failing. To test the fuel pump, insert a pressure gauge tool like this in the lines out from fuel pump.
Since I don't have info on your machine, I'll just give some general ideas. If your machine has a fuel pump check it to see if it's working. Take off fuel line from carb to see if pump is pumping fuel. Check fuel filter. The problem may be clogged/ dirty carb. Use carb cleaner spray into carb throat , and approx. 1/3 can of carb cleaner into fuel tank.
Gotta be either fuel, fire, compression or timing, so next time it dies, spray a little starting fluid into the intake, if it starts right back up -fuel problem-probably stopped up fuel filter, bad fuel pump. If not, remove a spark plug wire and attach old spark plug , lay it on a grounded metal part of the engine or frame , have someone try to start it, watch to see if the plug is firing.
that is just a hand primer for when you run out of fuel. you may need to change the fuel filter. and clean out the fuel chamber and veins in the carb. if filter is old 2 years then it should be changed.
first make sure the motor isn't engaged when trying to start it, and If it has been sitting for awhile, (in between seasons), It's likely that the carb is clogged, try cleaning it out, make sure the spark plug is firing correctly. And if it's getting spark, and its getting fuel, but still wont start, then the carb may need adjusting.
Thanks for stopping by... When you said "cleaned the carb" - did you disassemble, and clean - or just spray carb cleaner into it?
Sitting for 2 years - the additives in the gasoline can leave a varnish that will clog the tiny jet orifice in the carb bowl.
You'll need to disassemble, and clean out the jet with a wire.
Popping and sputtering can be caused by a few things:
Old Gas - drain and refill with fresh. Dirty Air Filter - Check and clean/replace it. Poor Fuel mix/ratio - clogged Carb Jet or sticky butterfly. Poor Spark - check/change the plug. Fuel Vaccuum - remove the gascap - and start... the vent hole may be clogged. Clean and/or replace it if it starts running better with the gas cap off. Clogged Fuel Filter/inlet screen - backflush the tank and the debris should wash back into the tank. Rinse out and re-install.
This is most likely a fuel delivery or spark issue.
Change the fuel and plug first... and give the carb a GOOD cleaning... then re-check.
Those rattly noises are detonations, caused by a very lean mixture. All the other symptoms indicate that the fuel flow to the carb is too low. Since you have replaced the pump and the filter, the only other things left to check are the lines and the tank sump. Or you could install a much larger pump.
There may not be an in-line fuel filter on the bike. Most bikes don't come with them. Yes, the fuel petcock has two screen filters on one pipe and they can get clogged up. Remove the tank then remove the petcock and clean it. The gas in the tank should be dumped into a clear plastic storage bin so that you can see if there is any water in the gas as well as rust and trash. Your bike is 15 years old and the inside of the tank may be rusty. If so, Google“ kreem fuel tank liner “or go to www.http://www.4secondsflat.com/Fuel_Tank_Sealer.html This will end the rust problem. Go ahead an install an in-line fuel filter. There is a drain plug on the lower left side of each carb. Drain each carb into a clear container and look for water and trash. You may need to clean the carbs but hold off to see if the other stuff fixes the problem. Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site.
