Had my starter clutch replaced at a Yamaha dealer now it back fires & won,t run properly

bad fuel smell if bad old fuel can cause backfires and poor performance as well as carb headaches

I had one i had to bump start for miles till it went. also would fire on three now and again ... cleaned up the pic up points front lower casing right hand side , and it fired up and ran all the time nice and fine .

The one way clutch inside the motor is slipping. On the back side flywheel is a one way clutch that grabs the starter gear when the starter motor spins. It is designed to let go of the gear once the motor fires up. If the mating surface of the one way clutch and the starter gear becomes rough or chattered, it will no longer grab and turn the motor over. To repair this you will have to take off the crankcase cover and pull off the fly wheel to replace the one way clutch and the starter gear.

Replace the starter relay

i worked for a large yamaha dealer. yes, those bikes are very well known for the starter clutch going out. it's about $85 to $125 in parts and about 1 to 1.5 hours labor. also, an oil filter relocator kit will save you money on servicing or changing your own oil.

Check to make sure your getting gas by pulling off the hose, if no gas comes out your petcock is clogged. If this is the case blow air up into the hose, and if gas comes out now your tank has to be cleaned out.
