Some people try to access the spark-plug from under the seat..
- however the easiest way is to unmount the rear shock absorber (1 screw at the bottom) and rise the Vespa to reach the spark plug....
- this is far better than to reach it from above....
the only thing which has to be taken care of is not to lower the rear wheel too much-otherwise the spark-plug cable will be ripped out.
A popular problem, as today's gasoline is made about as cheap as cheap can be. Start off by locating the drain at the very bottom of the carb bowl and run out a bout a half cup of the new fuel you have in it. Is the new fuel a quality premium and does NOT have alcohol?
(oxygenated with 10% ethanol) Be 100% sure. Check to be sure you have spark, I use a spark plug opened up to like .040" attached to a battery charger clamp. Clamp it to a good clean ground, spin the engine over and look for a blue constant spark. After you checked these things over, try starting it using a very small amount of starter fluid spray (small amount). While spinning the starter shoot a spritz into the air cleaner. If you're kick starting do the same an immediately kick it over. The rule of thumb is; if it runs a little and quits the problem is fuel system, if it doesn't do anything it's ignition.
I'm gonna guess the carb will have to come off and be cleaned up. The fuel evaporated and left behind goo. Buy a service manual from say amazon, it's the best $$ you'll ever spend. Best of luck!
