Most people have this problem after changing the exhaust system. In your case you have to unbolt the exhaust system just to change the oil filter during an oil change. There is an oil filter relocation kit available for around $400 that allows you to both use a spin on filter and not have to unbolt the exhaust system every time you change the oil. The cause of your problem is air leaking past the exhaust o-rings in the head. Buy new exhaust o-ring gaskets for the head and your problem should be solved. If there is a sealing pipe gasket going from the head pipe to the muffler you may have to replace that too. The cause of your problem was probably an oil change where the mechanic replaced the oil filter but did not bother to replace the exhaust o-ring gaskets. Happy riding.

STOP RIDING IT! You have a few moderate issues going on that need to be fixed as soon as possible! If black smoke is coming out of your exhaust, then you probably need your carbs cleaned, and need to check and see if oil is some how making it into the cylinders. Oil leaking from the air cooler means you have a break in your radiator, either the hoses or the radiator itself. Fortunately these are rather inexpensive, but the longer it goes, the more expensive it becomes. Also check your oil level to make sure you're not below the recommended amount of oil in the engine. This oil does a few things, keeping your engine cool (radiator), keeps stuff moving (pistons and such), and also acts as the lubricant for your clutch plates and gears. It's probably OK to drive. I imagine they failed to get the oil filter properly seated and you're getting a little leak there. DO BE SURE to check the oil level before you drive it and add if necessary.

The oil you are seeing may very well be from the bike sitting. I have worked on many bikes that have had similar problems. The oil bypasses the rings and gets forced out the top of the cylinder. Once the bike has been used for a couple of days, sometimes a few days longer, the rings expand sealing the cylinder and thus no more oil. It would be a good idea to examine the cylinder bolts too to make sure that the oil is not leaking from the cylinder head.

When a bike, or any motorized vehicle or tool, sits for an extended period of time, parts that are supposed to be lubricated by the motor running will dry out or shrink. This can cause a decrease in engine life and costly repairs. Always try to start your bike, even if you don't ride it, and let it run through the warm up procedure everyday.

Even if the oil leak stops on your bike, you should still have the exhaust leak fixed. Grab the exhaust pipe, when cool :o), and see if you can feel any slack by pulling on it. I would spray a penetrating oil on the bolts, let it sit overnight, and then try to tighten, or replace, them yourself.

Well - the front pipe has to be removed to change the oil filter on this bike, so it's very likely that when reinstalled the mechanic did not get it back in place correctly. Couple that with the likelyhood that he re-used the old exhaust gasket and this is your most likely cause for the backfire - a simple exhaust leak. Other typical causes for exhaust backfires are insufficient valve clearance, burnt valves or incorrectly adjusted carbs. In my experience the most common cause for exhaust backfire is a leak in the exhaust circuit which can draw in fresh air during decelleration.

It is most likely a leaky cylinder head cover gasket. There are also rubber seals that go around the bolts that hold the cover onto the head. Look closely and you will, very likely, see oil coming from one of these areas.

when you take it off loose nothing inside. make sure parts are OIL FREE- use rags and brake cleen or any good degreaser and a clean rag apply a small amount of gasket maker/ sealant as per tube instructions.
