XV1100 virago ...sputtering, dying...NOT FZR!!

Just had the gas tank painted, 1990 XV110 virago...went to wash bike...less than a mile from home, started to sputter, then died. took a while to get back started, did the same thing. Finally got it started, back home...let it sit running for about 15 mins...lots of backefire when revved, but didnt sputter. turned off...tried again about 3 hrs later...no sputter, but backfire still. any ideas???

1 maybe there is a diaghfram tear at your carb only 1 is funtioning and 1 block engine is running but under power
2.check your fuel line from tank to fuel filter then pump then carb
probally there is a debrie stuck in the pipe line or in your tank

My fzr 1000 sputters, backfires, and looses power .... oh and dies every now and again! what should I do?

most likely a fuel issue, clean carbs, check fuel filters( there are often filters inside the tank on the fuel pickup tubes) check vacuum operated fuel tap

Bike started to sputter and lose power fuel

This sounds like water in the gas. Condensation in the gas tank makes it's way into the float bowl and after enough accumulates the bike dies because water just doesn't burn like gas. Drain the carbs and then let them fill up again. The good thing is that the cost to eliminate this as a problem is zero.

1990 virago 535 starts and runs great for about 3 or 4 miles

Pull the float bowl caps off the carbs and then spray carb cleaner into the main jet and all other accessible ports on the carbs. Chances are there is a build up of water condensation in the carbs.

2007 yamaha virago won't start - replaced spark plugs and emptied gas tank and filled with new gas. it turns over - it has spark (fire) but won't start. Bike had been garaged for six months with full tank...

it's not that your not gettin gas it's that the gas is not getting thru the carbs to the engine. your bike will probably start w/choke on and then die, your jets are clogged and happens to most bikes that are stored w/gas in the carbs.,,,clean them if you know how or take it to a trusted mech...good luck to you...Tim
