93 ZX6E smoke coming from around the front and gas tank area

Hi..... I recently had a 1993 Kawasaki zx6e that had a real bad problem running infact down to maybe 3 cyclinders I fouled out my plugs replaced them ran great for just about 3 weeks or so. Then noticed same thing rough idle after warmed up had too pull the throttle half way to almost 3/4 way in to keep it running at highway speeds. Now I cleaned the carbs last year and the jet needles as well. My petcock was leaking so rebuilt that tested and made sure there was no leaks, also fill the bike up after rebuilding the petcock, leaked all the gas out of the bike from a full tank. And then I started it before the leak and it ran at idle just fine no load it idled ok but I did notice that it was smoking up from around the fuel tank, and from around the front by the head light and just infront of the seat area. I am almost positive that my carbs are dirty, and I need float needles but would any of that cause it too smoke furiously just sitting there idling on a warm night?? I am buying the bike back next month outside of knowing that the carbs need cleaned plugs and wires need replaced Im sort of worried on this smoking deal. the bike does have 23k on it can someone please offer some expert advice please. Thanks in advance for any help.

SOURCE: Carbs cleaned but bike will not idle properly

The pilot jet controls the idle. Check your service manual for the jet location. Chances are the jet is plugged up by varnish. Count the number of turns as you turn the adjuster screw INWARD until it LIGHTLY seats. Now remove the adjuster screw. Clean the jet and then put the adjuster screw in and LIGHTLY seat it. Turn the adjuster out the same number of turns as originally counted. Don't seat the screw too tight because you can screw up the jet if you do. Remove the actual jet only if you must.

SOURCE: Air box and crank case fuel flooding problem

Well there only one way the fuel can get into the crankcase and that's from the fuel tank. The petcock must be draining and the float needles are not stopping the fuel flow. Do you have a prime position on the petcock? If so do not run the bike in the position. Try topping the tank off with gas and letting it sit for a while and see is the gas has gone down and then check the crankcase and see if there's fuel in it again. i still say its got to be your petcock.

SOURCE: honda vt500 1985 motor seams to shut down after warming

Be sure to check the rubber boots either side of the carbs. A tiny hole or split (ie if they are old) can cause more air to be sucked in at higher rpm....killing the mixture

If you disconnect the neg while it is running, you risk damaging the regulator, check the battery voltage with a meter.

I installed a new stator/generator and a voltage regulator/restifier on my 1993 kawasaki zx6E.. the wires from the stator to the connector which then runs back to the regulator are both getting warm and i...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The heating up would be normal as relatively, high current is passing through these wires/terminals not only to charge the battery but to power the electrics of the bike. If the regulator is working correctly, it would soon dwindle down since presumably the battery has been charged. Almost always, the connector used is not plastic but phenolic or epoxy based due to this very reason.  Another possible reason for excessive heat is that the terminals are not tighly fitted to its counterpart connector. A loose connector would result in a slight voltage drop but high current accross the connection.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
