Oil & filter change myself

I would like to do the oil nd filter change myself. Can you help me how to do il? and What is the type of oil and filter recommanded for a 1985, GS 850, Suzuki.

Tanks. the nuts on the oil filter cover just keep on spining and does not come out

    Ok tried wiggling, and tried pulling. I am a female so maybe I just don't have the strength to pull the bolts out.

    I have the 4 qts of oil, and filter. Just do not seem to be able to pull it off. I thought that it was a spring loaded cover?

    The oil filter cover has 5 (forever) bolts. It is located on the front of the bike dead center. I do believe that there was an add on placed on the upper half of the filter cover that goes to the oil light on the faring. The cover is like it is stuck like glue.although the bolts are able to be turned by fingers, I can not pull them out.

    The second problem I am having is I can not tighten them either. All they are doing is turning. (this is the forever thing mentioned above.)

Ok pal here we go...grab that oil cover and wiggle, pound and pull..it's just stuck..that bolt has an o ring on the other side thats why it doesn't pull out easily....go to a good motorcycle parts store and get a filter and 4 qts of Castrol Syntec Actevo 10-40wt Pour oil into dipstick hole, bike on centerstand on LEVEL ground..pour 2 qts in and chk dipstick then top off slowly...checking stick every 1/4 qt button her up and have a great ride for me....Drain bolt is on bottom of crankcase and is 17 mm in case you didn't know...Good Luck to you friend......Tim

    Should be just one large bolt in the center right? Is the cover free from crankcase or stuck like glue ? you said "pull the bolts out" are there more than 1 bolt ? Where is the cover you speak of located exactly ?

    try tapping on the cover w/ a plastc/rubber hammer, if you don't have one use handle of large screwdriver, can you upload any pics of this ?

    Those should be little acorn nuts(5) srewed onto threaded shafts but after knocking on the cover it should come loose(have drip pan ready it's gonna get messy, hope owners before you didn't strip those bolts overtightening them...Tim

This normly happen when u dont service the car @ the right time(late changing of oil nd oil filter) or when u dont change the oil filter.
All you have to do is>buy a ENGINE FLUSHER. Pour it in the engine,let the engine run for 10 minute then drain the oil and replace it with new oil and oil filter.it wil work.

You could try some YouTube videos on similar models.
Its a messy job, and for most people easier to pay someone to do.
You have to remove the drain plug from the oil pan to drain the oil into a pan, then dispose of it safely, and change the filter, then refill the oil pan with new oil.

hi buddy i found the correct oil SILKOLENE V-TWIN 20W-50 add 3,3litre of oil if changing oil filter aswell if not add 3.0litre just run the bike for 10 mins to get oil warm drop the plug out underneith the engine let it drain put the plug back in unscrew filler cap add oil once filled retighten filler plug run for 5 mins recheck oil / unscrew oil filter aply oil to seal on oilfilter and retighten on hand tight hope this helped buddy

Want to change the oil myself,don't know how
look in your owners manual or look up online what type of oil you acura takes. Go to the store buy a 5 quart bottle of the oil type. Also buy an oil filter for your car. Just ask the people at the store to look up what filter fits your car. Get under the car or jack it up a little and put it on jack stands and get under it. Locate the oil pan and at the rear of it there is a small drain plug which is a bolt. Loosen it and get ready because once you remove it the oil will come pouring out so have a pan under the car to catch it. Then locate the oil filter and twist it off, replace the filter with the new filter and hand tighten. You dont need to gorilla grip it just snug it. Then replace the drain plug. Now your ready to refill with new oil up top. Make sure you get the right oil type and also lookup how many quarts your car needs. It is easy it takes less than 15minutes

Oil & filter change myself
First drain all the oil, "it's better to work with a slightly warmer engin so that the oil can easely drain.

On one side of the motor there will be a rondish cover with usualy 3 screws in " watch out for the orings" Take of the cover.

Take out the filter, * Be carefull for any springs and remember the way that you took it out*
Replace the filter with a new one from a dealer, " the best plase to get it"

Putting everything back in the reverse order.

Change the oil about every two years and only tune up about every 3 years or only if drivability symptoms occur There is no product that can extend the life of any machine keep the fuel filter changed EVERY 15,000 miles or once a year and thats it jsut enjoy your car .
