The fuel petcock diaphram might need to be repaled. or gasket that is from gas tank to fuel shutoff valve could be bad.

Have you any compression? If not, pour a few ounces of motoroil in the spark plug hole to place some oil on top of the piston and let it soak for a day or so. Fit an old spark plug and check compression. It should be good now. Turn the engine over a few times to blow the excess oil out and fit a new plug. After checking the petrol and oils is mixing OK and the carb is "wet", try starting again.

Make sure the gear box has fresh oil and any hydraulics have fresh fluid.
Hope you get it going.

I have a 1983 gr650 tempter. The engines runs great sitting still. Hits rpms and sounds good. My problem is when I put it into gear, it spits and sputters and wont hit rpms. I'm lost.

Obviously something is wrong. Start simple check all routine maintenance items, empty the gas & save a sample from the bottom of the tank. Why? Ethanol/gas loves to absorb water from the air in as little as 1 month. Additives allow the water to mix with the fuel, it does not prevent it and it needs agitation to mix. So if your bike sits in a garage for 6 months waiting for good weather, you can expect to be running watered down fuel. It will sound like those lawn mowers that sputter and spit in the spring after sitting all winter. If you find water, even 1 drop, clean everything out: tank, fuel lines, fuel pump(if applicable), carb, and carb bowl if applicable. If all is well, do a compression test.

Runs rough under 3500 rpms, ok above 3500 rpms

Some Honda's have slow running (below 3500 rpm) coils and fast running over (3500 rpm) coils. they are behind the engine cover on the side but could be at the front, depending on the bike. Sounds like your slow running coil is breaking or broken.

Bike sputters with no throtle when trying to start. If any throtle or choke is used bike will not sputter at all. If starting fluid is used bike will start. I've changed plugs ,new gas and cleaned air...

Hi
Check/replace inline fuel filter. Put a fuel injector/carb cleaner fluid in the tank and run it through, this will clean any build up that may be in carbs/injectors.
If problem is still persisting then you'll need to get carbs/injectors removed for cleaning and resetting. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

Where is the fuel pump and fuel filter at

The fuel pump and strainer are located inside the fuel tank.

There are three possible locations for this component due to different production dates/locations: under hood, passenger side, rear engine area, below firewall, mounted in fuel line or under vehicle, passenger side, below seating area, mounted on frame in fuel line or under vehicle, driver side, below rear seating area, mounted on frame in fuel line

Easiest method to find, follow the fuel pump lines from the tank forward, you'll find the filter.

If you change the filter, it's not a bad idea to put a little Gumout fuel injector cleaner directly into that new filter, about 1/2 full before reinstalling, that will give your injectors a quick clean. It can cause a short sputter or two but I've never seen it cause a problem and it does help clean the fuel system quickly.

You'll also want to remember to turn the key on for 3 seconds, off for 3 seconds, alternating until the fuel pressure builds before trying to start the vehicle, after repairs are made to either the pump or the filter.

Use caution when removing lines, pressure and flammable !

Good Luck

Where is fuel filter for a 1998 blazer located?

cando997, The fuel filter for the blazer is located under the drivers seat underneath the vehicle. Just follow the fuel lines from the gas tank and in the middle of the fuel line somewhere under the drivers seat is a metal cannister with a fuel line running in and a fuel line running out. This is the fuel filter. I hope this helps in anyway.

93 fat boy will not continue to run once started and wont restart

sounds like a fuel supply problem it probably has some build up in the fuel system from sitting so much, if it has a screen in the bottom of the tank it could be clogged with sediment from the fuel sitting. or in the filter if it has one could be clogged with old gas or dirt particles. Clean the tank if needed, unhook fuel line at engine and make sure there is flow from the tank. I sometimes blow air through the line back up to the tank to back wash any problems.

good luck

1995 Jeep Wrangler 2.5 4cyl spits and sputters while driving

if you have an electric fuel pump that would explain the hum. unhook your incoming fuel line and blow the line clear, sounds like you've got some junk in your tank.it'll build up on the screen in the tank then fall off (at least partially) when your making turns or hitting bumps or holes. next time it's only got a gallon or so of fuel i'd drop the tank and check the pickup tube inside. sux but that's the only way to get to it. while you've got the tank off and out from under the jeep, might as well clean it out real good and replace anything inside (usually the screen) that doesn't look right, dirty etc. wouldn't hurt to run a bottle of fuel system cleaner in the next full tank of fuel either. preferably as soon as you put your tank back. good luck
