N.Z. Yamaha FZ6S Headlights

There is a genuine reason why this is the standard setup for this bike. At night, the dual-headlight of the bike can appear to other motorists that you are in a car at a much greater distance than is actual. As you can imagine, this might result in someone pulling out in front of you, completely unaware that you are bearing down on them at a short distance. So, for safety reasons, only a single beam is lit when using dipped/low beam.

However, if you accept the risk above, you can do what is known as the 'dual headlight mod'. There are 2 accepted methods for this.

The first method simply requires bridging the 2-pin connector (H7 bulb) to the spare on the 3-pin connector (H4 bulb). Instructions have been posted by ‘Gand’ at the following link:

The second method is more complex, and requires a decent knowledge of auto-electrics, as you have to remove various components of the bike just to get to the wiring loom. Sorry, I've lost the link for this, but you might be able to find the instructions by searching for 'FZ6 dual headlight mod'.

Note: it differs from country to country, but in the UK (for example), the dual headlight mod will result in an immediate MOT failure. Therefore, you will need to remember to disconnect the mod prior to MOT inspection.

I have a 2005 fz6 fazer with the same problem and the problem is a good one with hard answers. the right hand light is set at a different angle to the left so is designed to point in a different direction to the one on the right. its just very tricky to re align the beam settings afterwards to stop blinding a motorist infront of you. i paid the garage to do this very same problem.
