Are you sure the smoke is white? White smoke is usually caused by antifreeze burning.(This could be a head gasket)
If the smoke is actually light gray it is oil burning.(This would be rings or valve seals)
If it smokes mostly on startup and then stops when it warms up (It could be a worn valve guide or deteriorated valve guide seal (or possibly several) allowing a tiny amount of oil into one or more cylinders).
If it smokes mostly when you are cornering (It could be too much oil in the crankcase).

I have a 92 VX 800 Suzi....And I have a simular problem ..In my case one pipe blued and the other was fine ...this case rear cylinder ..And after a ton of serching the net I finally broke her down and loll and behold it was the intake valve seal and caused a lil damage to the valve but that'll be next.
