Fouled Fuel System on 2005 Yamaha V-Star 1100 Classic

There is a fuel setting issue and the mixture to the cylinder is not correct. It can be problems in the carburator, the air / fuel mixture settings, possible there is dirt clogging within any ports and choking.
When the throttle is raised there is insufficient fuel to the cylinder and so it shuts down. check the spark plug, the gaps and the timing.

sounds like a problem i had with my v star if u can charge it and it starts and runs for a bit then dies again check the rectifier which charges the bike

turn the bike on and fuel comes out of a line behind the air filter. Can you tell me where that line is supposed to go

I do not agree your bike should run better then it sounds like it is. Just throwing on a set of pipes and a carb kit is not always all that needs done. I ask about the air filter because it seems your motor is getting to much gas and not enough air. The thing I would do next is to get a higher flow of air on the intake side by going to a high flow air filter. A quick check to see if this will help is to temporarily remove the air filter and test ride the bike. If it runs better without the filter this tells you a high flow filter will help. Your bike may need more work than this to get it right on. The other thing you could have done is get someone to jet in the carb to cut down the fuel flow and get the fuel air ratio right on.

Try tapping on your fuel pump with a plastic hammer with the ignition switched on. Or bypassing the fuel pump completely with a piece of fuel line. It sounds like you ran out of gas which is related to the fuel petcock position or a non-functioning fuel pump.

but it sounds like fuel starvation. change fuel filter and run some fuel system cleaner in the gas tank. get additive not spray

Hi,
The first thing you need to check is the air filter. Sometimes critters can get into the airbox when a bike sits for awhile. Sounds crazy, but it has happened to me. If nothing is blocking the filter, give it a quick clean since you have it out.
Next things to check:
Faulty diaphragm
Improperly adjusted fuel level
Clogged or loose main jet
Faulty fuel pump
You may not be able to check these on your own, but these are the next likely culprits.

This sounds like your fuel jets need to be cleaned,,,,the longer it sits the more varnish and film will build up! the timing may be off also
