It means 25 parts of gasoline to 1 part of two-stroke oil (the gasoline is always being the higher number).
to 1 litre (1000 mililiters) it means adding 0,04 litres (40 mililiters of oil).
easiest ways to do it:
- get a 40 mililiter plastic shotglass (they are about 10 dollars/7 pounds for one hundred on amazon) and always fill full litres, then add one shot of oil for every litre filled;
- get a five-litre jerrycan and pre-mix five litres of gasoline with two decilitres (200 mils) of oil.

What is the correct fuel/oil mixture please as some sites say 25/1 whilst others state 40/1 ( which I believe is correct for the later model RCT2800AD)

I would go with 25/1, as that is always going to be safer than 40/1, too much oil might make a bit more smoke, but the engine will be happier. Too little oil and you risk bearing damage, or even worse, engine seizure.

I have a Ryobi RPT3000 trimmer. Firstly how do I top up engine oil? And then how do I restring it?

The engine on that trimmer will be a 2 stroke 30cc engine not a 4 stroke.
"Two Stroke Oil" is added to the fuel for a 2 stroke fuel mix in accordance with the proportions specified by Ryobi for that engine. The required petrol/oil mix may be printed on the top of the fuel cap. No other oil is used in a 2 stroke engine.

There are a number of videos on Youtube people have uploaded which will show you how to replace the pull cord on a trimmer.

Fuel mix for 25cc trimmer

For two stroke engines of this capacity the ratio of fuel to two stroke oil is (25:1) 25 fuel to 1 (two stroke) oil. Eg 200 ml of two stroke oil to 5 litres of fuel.

Confused a little

A 4 stroke motor does NOT have Oil in the Fuel. There is NO fuel mixture. Just use regular gas. The only place you need oil is in the sump, and regular 20/30 motor oil will be fine.This only needs to be replaced when low on dipstick in crankcase.
