I have a 2004 suzuki sv650s it was sitting for awhile then after taking it on a ride it started to back fire it also seems to be draining the battery i have been told it might be the carborador any ideas
You have to tune your engine using the following ways.
1. tune your fuel air screw for optimal settings.(in most cases inappropriate tuning is the reason for backfires)
2. check and clean your spark plug and the wire connecting your spark plug.
3. check the voltage levels of the battery. if they are low then recharge them.
The 2004 SV650S (US model) has electronic fuel injection so don't spend a whole lot of time looking for the "carborader" or fuel air screws if that is your model. Check your fully charged battery voltage: before starting(around 12.8 VoltsDC), during starting(no less than 10VDC) , at idle(12.8VDC or more), revved up above 4000 rpms(13-17VDC).
