Having trouble wiring the ignition system on a 1980 honda XL 80.

The modle and year was not on the list of this website so i chose the next closest modle but anyway, i think u might be able to help me

i just bought a new magneto but i am not getting any sort of electrical charge coming from it. the part with the coils inside is well used and may be at fault, but i rebuilt it and re soldered the wires very carefully. i think i have it wired properly but no matter how i wire it i am not getting any electrical charge or spark. i even put my hand on the wire coming directly from the start if the ignition system to feel for an electric charge, but still, no charge. please help

WThat center thing is the armature. It generatates voltage by breaking the magnetic field created by the field coils.. You won't get shocked or even feel the current because you cannot get it spinning fast enough. You have a coil that generates the high volttage spark from the pulsing of the generator output and voltage controlled by the regulator. the field coils are ennergize by turning on the keygetting power from the battery.. n no doubt you did good in your rewire, but the only way to test it is to run it. Yup, reassemble, new oil and start it. Sorry guy.

How can I tell if my coil pack to my 1980 Suzuki is good

Remove spark plug, reattach spark plug wire, ground bottom of plug to bare metal on engine head and crank the ignition. If you get sparks its probably good. If you have no spark and are trying to determine if it is your magneto or coil you will have to use a volt meter.

I have a 1972 Honda xl250. It sat outside for 10 years before I got it. Alls it needed was a carb and it cranked after the 4th or 5th kick. About a week later it quit running. I figured out that it was'nt...

You are probably dealing with dirty, burnt,or shorting points. Try replacing the points located at the end of the crankshaft under the cover held on by two screws. You may have to install and reinstall the points several times before you can get the new points to work. Chances are the points in the machine are almost 40 years old. Also , Honda ignition systems run off the battery. In most Honda models if you do not have a good, charged battery , you will not get spark.

My 83 Honda Civic won't start in the rain. Would changing the distributor cap mostly likely solve the problem?

The cap may help.......but there is more to the system that handles the high voltage.
In order of the most common trouble spots for wet no start.
First....ignition wire set..... 80%
2nd, I would change the ignition coil....10%
Then cap and rotor......10%

Why not change it all and have a dependable wet starting car.
