SOURCE: unable to change down gear. gear lever stays down

Well, first of all ofcourse find out how many gears you have, if you take it to a shop and they tell you you have "One down, four up"
It means starting from Neutral, you click down once for first gear, and from there you can click up to fifth.
Try finding an open area, gear up to 3rd or 4th then gear down a couple times.
Remember, you must be in gear 2 or higher to gear down.

SOURCE: I cant seem to get my r1 to change pass third

The bike has a bent shift fork in the transmission. You describe the classic symptoms. The engine will have to come out of the frame. Then it gets flipped upside down, right and left side covers, shift shaft, and other components are removed, then the bottom half of the gearbox is removed. This allows access to the shift drum and shift forks. There are some special tools needed and I don't recommend a novice mechanic tackles the job. Below is a diagram of how the shift drum moves the shift forks left and right to make a slider gear engage different gears. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_116.gif

Loud snapping noise heard when changing gears

From the way you've described it your gear stick linkages maybe on there way out. When changing gear does the car resist getting into gear?

If it's more of a crunching sound then I would try double de clutching, to do this you need to:
change gear as usual but instead of holding down the clutch throughout the gear change hold it down to take the vehicle into neutral then release the clutch then push the clutch down again and change into desired gear.
To change down it's basically the same principal but you push down the clutch to put the vehicle into neutral then push the throttle down just to pitch revs then release the throttle and push the clutch down to change into your desired gear, if it won't go in to gear easily then rather the throttle until it does.

You can go onto youtube and search for double de clutching and I'm sure some results will come up

hope this helps!

Do I have to buy new bikes to get higher range of gears?

Actually no! you can visit your bike shop and ask them for higher range. What they do is change the front wheel ring in order to give you higher range.

Release your gear selector cables; position your chain on the 1st.or lowest gear
for both the derailer and, pedal gears.
Adjust your cables tighten and, test (some bikes use the highest gear to adjust from.

Changing gears very stiff

try 1 0f these solutions giving the cars age and not much discription.
1 check the level of your gear box oil

2 change the gear box oil or if automatic change the fluid for the transmision.( since you say changeing gears i take it that it's manual gear box.

3 if manual the gears need over hauled giving the age of your car.

4 your clutch cable needs adjusted due ware on the clutch or if hydraulic the clutch system needs bleed with new fluid.
