Replace the gas caps with new. It sounds like the vent in the original gas cap is stuck and not working.

A FORD EQUIPED WITH DUAL TANKS THIS YEAR MODEL HAS CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL PUMPS .THE FUEL RUNS FROM THE REAR TANK WHEN IT IS POWERED ON TO A TEE AND INTO THE SAME LINE AS THE FRONT PUMP . THE PROBLEM IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT FUEL PUMP THERE IS A CHECK VALVE ON THE FOOT AND IT IS NOT WORKING.WHILE THE TRUCK IS RUNNING WITH THE REAR FUEL PUMP ON IT IS PUMPING FUEL INTO THE FRONT TANK . IT WILL RUN OUT OF THE NECK WHEN IT IS FULL.THE FIX IS SIMPLE REPLACE THE FRONT FUEL PUMP. THEY DONT MAKE A CHECK VALVE REPLACEMENT I CHECKED I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.

SOURCE: expansion tank cap is leaking antifreeze from the

OK, First let's get a couple things straight.

  1. NEW is spelled with an "N"
  2. GOOD is spelled with a "G"
  3. "NEW" and "GOOD" do not mean the same thing - if they did, we would have absolutely no use for the word "WARRANTY" I have seen many people beat their heads against the wall trying to fix a problem and cant figure it out because the part that was causing the problem was "brand new".
  4. It is absolutely impossible to have it both ways. Either the cap is holding pressure very well, or it is leaking.
OK, now that I have my preaching done, I would first have to ask: Are you sure that the cap is on STRAIGHT and screwed all the way down? I have seen a few surge tanks that will actually allow a person to scew the cap on in a tilted position...flimsy plastic junk...

...ANYWAY,
Make sure that the seals in the cap are not damaged. There are two seals, the first is an O-ring that will seal the tank neck just below the overflow hose. The other is a flat seal up in the top of the cap which seals against the top of the threaded area on the surge tank. (This is the one we need to give the most attention to in your case - if the O-Ring is bad it will most likely be dumping all your coolant out the overflow hose.)

If you are satisfied that the cap seals are in good conditon, (They SHOULD look brand new! ;) ) then take a look at the surge tank.

I have seen several plastic surge tanks with "flashing" from the moulding process left on the top edge where the cap seal is supposed to seal. If there is a ridge on the upper surface that you can feel with your fingernail, it is enough to cause a leak. This can be fixed using a block and some 220 grit sandpaper. Be careful not to sand too much and/or sand it to where the top ends up angled. You may want to follow this up with some 1000 grit sandpaper to smooth it out even better.

One final note:
Make sure your surge tank is not overfilled. If it is, it will dump antifreeze untill it reaches the proper level regardless of the condition of the cap and/or surge tank.

I have a 2001 carburated polaris virage tx jet ski. It builds up pressure in the gas tank and I can take a piece like this off and the pressure comes out of the hose. The hose hooks on to the black end of...

I don't know much about jet skis but it sounds like its building pressure in the gas tank as you have said..Does it have the original gas cap.. Sometimes the original caps have a very small vent hole. People replace them with one that dont....if it was a car it would be called Vapor lock....it's when the pressure in the tank becomes greater then the fuel pump..Might be a little hose that goes to the carb... Supposed to burn fumes..if it's clogged it builds pressure in your tank... Something like this is going on..If you take the gas cap off and hear air sucking into tank this might be your problem..Hope this helps..

I have an 85 Toyota pick up efi and I put a new fuel pump in and I cant put the gas cap on tight or it builds pressure and with it off it leaks gas out the overflow in the engine compartment?

Either the Gas Cap is shot or the tank vent is clogged. First thing i would recommend would be to try swapping the gas cap for one from another car (without the same problem).
The Gas Cap should be a vented style cap, but if it quits it can build up pressure inside the tank. If swapping the cap doesn't stop the pressure, than the vent is clogged, it's on top of the tank

No pressure in gas tank when the cap is opened.

I am not sure I understan tghe question. You should not have a lot of pressure in the tank. There are hoses that capture any vapors that are in the tank and eleviate pressure build up.
Most often I have found the engine light on because of gas tank vent, such as loose
or bad gas cap or the vent valve stuck open. The computer does a cycle ever so often
and maintains the vent pressure build up in the gas tank and vapor canister, and if the purge valve sticks open the computer gives a check engine light and code as the pressure is not in the vapor storage tank when called for.
If your worried about no pressure at all then I would change the gas cap and see if this helps

My check engine light keep coming on the code was gas cap I bought one and it still keeps coming on

the code doesnt refer to gas cap it is just the most common problem associated with PO440 what it means is the tank isnt building pressure can be caused by leak loose vent hosae damaged canister look for loose connections at tank will not be fuel lines only vent

hope this helps give you ideals plz leave a comment and reply if you have more questions

Where is the fuel pump located on 1994 ford e350 club wagon

Hello. They are located in the fuel tanks. I say tanks plural because it's a 350 Club. There is also a pressurized pump on the frame rail just to the inside of the frame, just about under the driver's seat, if it is equipped with dual tanks. It's a rare occasion that one cannot run the van without prior notice of a tank mounted pump going bad. I'd try the fuel interrupter switch located in the passenger's side kick panel before anything else. Push the button top to reset it and then try starting the van. If the vehicle has suffered a jolt, large pot hole, bump etc...

I have 1990 chevy pickup 1500 4 wheel 350 eng. throttle body inj. the truck started missing and stalling i changed fuel filter and it ran good for 2 days then started the same thing so i changed fuel pump...

It sounds like the engine is pulling fuel from the tank, and not replacing it with air, causing a vacuum to build in the tank. The vacuum, may build to the point that it resists the fuel pump's efforts to **** fuel from it. If the vacuum is sufficient, it may collapse the tank, or expand the fuel enough for the engine manifold vacuum to **** raw gas into the evaporative emissions control system, hence the cannister.

Replacing the fuel pump, and filter will both break this vacuum, and make it run well for a few more miles, until the vacuum builds again.

The tank is usually vented to relieve pressure and vacuum through the gas cap.

Basically, sounds like a bad gas cap.

Try driving with the cap loose or removed. If that fixes it, buy a new cap. Preferably a locking one, as the amount of fuel these trucks hold is pretty tempting to less than honest folks. My 1990 C2500 has a 34 gallon tank.

Coil?? with the other symptoms, how'd you come up with that?
