I have a 1990 GSF400 Bandit. Starts fine, but when the engine is ticking over it will lose revs and die, have cleaned the plugs and the mixture seems ok, it has a new air filter and this problem came on suddenly the only way that I can use the bike in traffic is to keep blipping the throttle which really annoys car drivers.@

as you have replaced carbs you will need to retune for fuel intake also check its getting enough air ie.. air filter has been changed or is clogged
SOURCE: Engine revs when turning right.
being an older bike, maybe a wire from the hand controls is shorting out, even in side the handle grip switches, or going down the neck under the tank. normaly a throttle cable problem would cause the rpms to go up when turning the handle bar, thats why im suspecting a short
SOURCE: will not go above 4500 revs power loss, overheating.
It sounds as if the engine is running very lean, this can be caused by several things. Firstly the fuel filter you have installed, is it pointing in the correct direction (Fuel in and Fuel out), also is it a high pressure filter? If not remove it. Another thing that causes problems is the fuel pump could have a problem, it is also possible the gauze filter on it is clogged. Next check the fuel you have and make sure it has no water in it, to clear small amounts of water you can get a tank of ethanol, this will mix water and burn it off as you ride (Don't us a big mix E10 should be sufficient) if you don't like the ethanol, empty the tank of ethanol and refill with regular fuel.

Check float height in carbs. Thanks for asking and I hope this helps out. Please leave me 4 thumbs up.
SOURCE: Ok, i recently purchased a DTR 125 R 2000 model
Sounds like a vacuum leak is leaning out the mixture....check the intake between carb and engine for leaks...another source may be tjhe crankcase seals are leaking.
