Just bought a 2001 vs800 intruder, got it home and will not start

Bought the bike yesterday, started and worked great.when i got home and tried to start the bike after unloading it off the truck.the bike would not start.no click or anything. Installed new battery, checked fuse panel, all ok.no indicator lights come on,not even the park light in the park position.Checked the kill switch,in the right position.Even had the kickstand up and down still would not have any lights or start. Could it be in the ignition switch itself?

I found the problem.the negitive wire coming from the battery, goes up through the body of the bike has rubbed and chaffed through the outer casing, causing a short.replaced the wire and now the bike runs

If you're getting no lights then it is either the ignition switch or the battery is not making connection. Check the battery with a multi-meter. Check the fusebox with a multi-meter, any power to any fuses there with key on?

Check it is charging. The voltage of the battery should be about 14 volts with the engine running at just above idle. If it is lower than this (which I suspect) you will need a new regulator or rectifier. to identify which of these you need will require a visit to an auto electrician.

I'm looking to install a set of Highway Bars on my 1997 suzuki vs800 intruder, and after exhausting all possible retails, I am unable to find one, but I have found a highway bar for a suzuki marauder which...

Hello,

Here is a link for highway bars (engine guards) for your bike; Old Bike Barn

I have these same guards on my 1996 Suzuki VS800 Intruder. They look good and make great foot rests while on longer rides.

Hope this helps. If you find this information useful, please vote on this post. Thank you.
