SOURCE: cbx 1000 1982 is it possible to change valve stem seals with out taking head off ta
Not really. Once the valve cover, oil line, intake and exhaust cams, and shims are removed you are looking at the top of the valve stem. The valve needs to be held up against the head to take off the valve keepers, the stepped disk and the two springs. The valve stem seal is way in there behind everything mentioned previously. If you could jam the valve against the head to remove the valve keepers etc. then you would have to do the reverse to replace everything after putting new seals on. You would have to do this 24 times, rotating the cylinders just right to get to TDC. The chances of completing this without bending a valve or ever being able to run the motor without always expecting an imminent catastrophic failure would be about zero.
(However, if you were planning on selling it to someone you were not ever going to meet again in this life or the the next - well ok then).
My apologies.
