2006 yz450f coolant leak water pump weep hole

  • Efraim Nick Curtusan

Hi guys I just rebuilt a 2006 YZ450F and changed every bearing, every seal and O-ring in the entire Engine. I specifically made sure to change all the water pump parts with the exception of the impellar and shaft as they looked to be in good condition. The bike runs amazing but noticed coolant coming out of the weep hole indicating bearing or seals have gone bad. But everything is new and installed properly. Used the original repair manual to make sure the seals and bearings went in right. It’s only leaking once bike gets hot. I havent rode the bike just started and run it in garage to warm it up and change the oil a few times to make sure all contaminants get out. Is it normal to leak from weep hole when it gets too hot? Coolant came out the radiator hose (over heat top hose) but also from the weep hole.any help would be appreciated!

Take compressed air and blow air up into the the weep hole. For some odd reason it made 3 different CRF's stop leaking. It's worth a shot.

Replaced water pump seals twice on 06yz450 and they keep leaking

I would reccomend replacing both water pump shaft bearings and also the shaft if there is any sign of grooving on the shaft. Without looking at a diagram i am assuming that the water side of this bikes pump is a mechanical(ceramic) seal design . Sucessful replacement of these mechanical seals can be tricky. A few tips are: be certain that all case surface areas are clean with all old seal/sealing debris removed such as with sccotch brite. So that the seal will seat and seal properly in the case. NEVER allow your dirty/oily fingertips to touch either of the ceramic pieces of the seal in the contact area. Lubricate these ceramic pieces with a standard green type of coolant only upon assembly. Always use a regular green type of coolant in the system untill you are confident of the install and then change to another type if you are going to. Be aware that it is not uncommon for the mechanical(ceramic) type of seal to weep slightly during initial break in as the two halves seat to each other. This weepage should dissappear in a short period of running time.

Does a water pump on a 2006 Prius that is "leaking" via the weep hole indicate that the pump needs to be changed asap or is this something that should be eventually addressed? BTW: the converter...

Hi, leaking via weep hole indicates the water pump seal is bad....pump is shot. I would consider this an urgent fix. Any coolant leak is an urgent fix......MIke

I have a coolant leak and I belive I need to replace the water pump, A 2004 GMC P-up 4.3 V-8

You need to locate the water pump. It is turned by a fan belt. There should be water hoses running into and out of the pump. Water pumps have a weep hole that leaks water when the pump starts to fail. It is usually hard to see as it is behind the pulley for the fan belt. If you're seeing a leak in this area it is a pretty good chance that the pump is bad and needs replaced.

MY TRUCK IS LEAKING SOMETIMES COOLANT, COULD IT BE A HOSE OR THE WATER PUMP?

Check the radiator and hoses for leaks. Also, look at the water pump and see if any coolant is leaking out of the vent or "weep" hole. If coolant is leaking from the weep hole, the water pump is defective and will need replaced. When checking hoses, look for cracks and leaks, especially around the hose clamps. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Anti freeze driping out of seep hole from the bottom of case

hello
there are two different seals on the water pump. the oil seal and the mechanical seal. the oil seal helps seal out the oil from the trans case. the mechanical seal helps seal the coolant from going into the trans case, and vise versa.
the weep hole is there to help diagnose if either seal is faulting. so if coolant is leaking from the weep hole. the mechanical seal is faulting or if the oil seal is leaking oil will drip from the weep hole.
hope this is of some help. thank you.
