Before this problem occurred I had an ignition problem with the key getting frozen and would not move left or right...eventually it would become free and I was able to start the engine. The big problem now is...when I am at a stop sign or traffic lights the engine shudders and stops and so I have to start the engine up again to move, but after a few times of that now I have to be really quick to get it into drive and move off, if I am too slow at this it will cut out. A mechanic I know did a test on the engine with an expensive apparatus and it read that my engine was OK. There seems to be a knowledge out there on the internet that this is a known problem in Honda cars. This car of mine is a Honda Station wagon automatic year 1998. I am scared to drive it because the car could stall and where I live we have big log trucks which just can't pull up that fast to avoid me.
You can in most cases repair this slow speed stall or unstable idle by cleaning the engine throttle valve and the idle speed control valve using a product called CRC Spray Throttle valve cleaner. Spray the cleaner into the air intake of the engine with the hose removed from the throttle body, the engine will try to stall so hold up the idle speed manually. Once you have used up about 1/2 can of the cleaner stall the engine out while spraying and turn the key off, disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and then reconnect and drive the car for a about 25 miles of varied driving modes. If this doesn't cure the problem you may need the fuel injectors professionally cleaned by the dealer service dept.
