Yamaha trouble shooting

Just bought a 2008 Yamaha v-star xvs1300. ran great for 100 miles, then I went riding today and there was a lack of power and when I got home the pipe with cat converter was all blue and extreme heat was present. Something to do with the cat, but what??? Thanks in advance. Tom S.

Have a 06 Yamaha 1100 V-star classic, sat for a while before I bought it, front pipe is starting to blue and the idle increases after ya ride it for a couple miles. bike only has 3300 miles on it. could it...

Hi,

Pipe bluing indicates that cylinder is running lean, therefore too hot. Have you looked at the front spark plug? The insulator should be paper bag tan. Ash white and it's running lean.

The idle going high can be a vacuum leak. You can spray WD-40 (or propane) around the intake flanges when it's running, and if the engine changes speed, you've found the leak.

Have a 2007 royal star venture bought new, excessive gear noise .took to dealer, changed clutch, prblem was worse, they changed rear end, was ok for 50 miles then started to lock up feeling and grind noise...

You might consider contacting Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA - customer relations (800) 962-7926, press "1" for Star Specialist. See if they would consider either exchanging the bike, or sending a factory specialist out to examine your ride.

Fuel leak

The carb/s are flooding , you will have to check the float pin and the float, a good clean with compressed air should do the job, check too the fuel line and the fuel filter.
Hope this helps!
