let is sit for a day and dry out. you probably got moisture into the spark plugs, or the distributor, or the wires. if you have a battery charger, charge the battery while you are waiting.

If it is running alone the back bone then yes you will have to remove the tank.

Did you use a Typanium Recitifier? There should be no problems unless it is a used one. All the new ones I havew used just "bolt on" .. there are 5 wires. Check to see if you don't have a grounded wire some where.. try it with the head light off.. I usually wire my bikes to start with no head light with a 3 way switch.. once running I can then turn the light on. it's been a while, and there always a different spec depending which manual you got, preset 17 thou for exhaust and 14 thou for intake, run engine till warm , if still noisy let engine cool and tighten a couple of thou each, repeat if necessary, it sound wishy washy but it has worked for me in the past
