SOURCE: what kind of oil should i use for my 1985 yamaha maix xj 700??

Absent evidence to the contrary and based on the age of your machine, you should probably use 'normal' oil. I don't think you will gain any benefit from the use of the expensive synthetic. Your bike is air cooled? Air cooled engines are tougher on oil than are water cooled engines. Find out the recommended weight and service rating from Yamaha. Use that weight and service class at a minimum and a higher service rating if available. Go to to a good auto parts place, not the "fast food" version, and ask the counter guy and/or find a comphy seat in the oil asle and start reading the cans.

Let me know how you make out with this.

SOURCE: how much and what of oil is the best kind of oil

Full synthetic oil will work the best for your bike. Synthetic has been over-engineered in a good way.

P.S: DO NOT USE car synthetic oil as they have TOO MUCH friction modifiers (not good for wet clutch).

SOURCE: What kind of oil is safe to use in my 2003 Yamaha

You can use many brands of oil : Honda oil, Yamalube, Suzuki oil, Kawasaki oil, Rotella T non synthetic oil ($12 a gallon), Mobil 1 motorcycle, Kendall, Castrol, Amsoil, Maxima, Bel-Ray, Motul, Pennzoil motorcycle, Royal Purple,Specro,Torco, Valvoline motorcycle, etc. Most oil brands sell a motorcycle oil, it just is not common to find it at many auto stores. Just make sure the oil you pick has the JASO MA Rating for Japanese motorcycle engines and is not an energy conserving car oil. The only reason Shell Rotella is mentioned (synthetic and regular) is because it is less expensive than all the other choices.

SOURCE: i need to know what

For the final drive oil you can use any 80/90 Hypoid gear oil. If you choose a synthetic Hypoid gear oil your rear end will run cooler. One quart of oil is enough for 4 or 5 rear end oil changes. Because the rear ends are so expensive (around $1000), I change my rear end oil every other engine oil change.

What gearbox oil is require for my dt125 x

10w40 motor oil goes in the gearbox. NEVER use synthetic oils or oils with " Special " additives. Synthetics and additives can swell ( or shrink ) the cork on the clutch friction plates. Swelling causes the clutch to grab and fail to dis-engage. Shrinking causes the clutch to slip or not engage at all.

CLUTCH ON YAMAHA ATV GRIZZLY 80 VERY TIGHT AND STICKING. SON CANNOT EVEN SHIFT GEARS WITH FOOT. HOW DO WE LOOSEN THIS OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM?

Is there oil in the gearbox? Is it really dirty? Lack of oil and dirty oil could account for the clutch problem. If you have put synthetic lubricant in the gearbox that could also account for the clutch. Synthetics can swell the cork on the clutch plates. New fiber plates would be needed.

The shifting problem could be tied to the lack of oil or dirty oil but usually the problem is bent shift forks. If fresh oil doesn't fix the clutch the clutch will need to be inspected/repaired. If that doesn't also fix the shifting, ( and I don't think it will ), the engine will need to be torn down and the shift mechanism inspected. Forks will likely need to be replaced.

1976 XT 500. Recently acquired, not experienced in serivicng bikes, just cars. Is the sump and gearbox oil one and the same or 2 seperate reserviors? wish to do oil change

Shared oil for gearbox and motor.

Be carefull not to put automotive oils in her. Generally bikes have a wet clutch and any newer synthetic oils designed for clinging on for quick starts will ruin your clutch. There are some great oils for big single thumpers at good prices. The site below has exploded view diagrams for your bike along with all the part names.

Goodluck and cheers.

WHAT KIND OF OIL CAN I USED?

is this a new bike? did previous owner put in synthetics...because if he did then you should stick with synthetics. I just use 10w40 Standard motorcycle oil..if your out riding in the sticks somewhere and you have a leak you can use car oil in a pinch...but how many places will carry expensive synthetic motorcycle oils! Now another question..do you live in an area that is hotter than average, "triple digits" then i"d use 20w40 its a little thicker and will provide a little more protection. Do not mix oils..always choose and then stick with it. Most motorcycles gearboxes are lubed with the same oil for the engine..so you will need more frequent oil changes than you would think. Can i get a good reply?
Thanks

What kind of motor oil do i use, how much and were do i check it also same question for gear oil

The engine and transmission are a single unit and use a common oil supply. 20w40 motor oil is what goes in the gearbox. NEVER use synthetic lubricants in your bike. The bike gets about 1.06 quarts of oil when doing an oil change. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

How do i drain the transmission oil on my dt125x

There will be a large bolt on the bottom of the gearbox. Remove the bolt and the oil will drain from that location. Replace the bolt, put in fresh oil then go riding.

Please rate this solution as a FixYa. Thanks!
