My seat of the pants respons would otherwise be ... Hmmmmm. Maybe your system was designed for 4 ohm speakers and the new speakers are 16 OHM - which would technically put a 4 fold additional load on the amps.

There is a row of small screws with nuts on them just below the bottom edge of the windshield. Remove these, the windshield support brackets and the light bar and the front of the fairing should come off.

check plug connections in speaker box then work your way frontward toward the radio checking for the signal I think harleytalking.com has schematics they have helped me...
