- the classic two stroke engine Vespas (since 1946 to ca. 1981) with gear shift at the handlebar have a direct drive to the rear wheel axle without any belt or chain.
- that is unique on scooters - but the newer models like ET4, LX, GTS etc. have now an automatic transmission with a variator belt.
