This method only works on pre1996 models, after that the restrictions became more involved than a washer tak welded into the exhaust port. after 1996 the bike is restricted in 3 main areas. 1.the exhaust now has 2 half moon shaped plates inside the expansion chamber(you will need to cut the front pipe open to remove these, then weld it shut) 2.the c.d.i is now set to ****** the power after 7k revs. source a pre1996 c.d.i. 3.the power valve, this is on a servo that controls its postion at a given point in the rev range, this is desinged to give a smooth power delivery and better fuel econemy. disconect pully cables from power valve rotate 180degrees lock into position, your power valve is now locked open. you will notice she sounds different, also a destinct lack of power until about6/7k revs. where she'll shoot off like a rocket as the power band kicks in. IF YOU ARE USING YOUR BIKE ON ROAD PLEASE DO NOT LOCK THE POWER VALVE. IT CAN BE A LOT OF FUN IN A FIELD SOMWHERE BUT YOU WONT BE LAUGHING WHEN THE BACK END SPINS UP ON A BUSY ROUNDABOUT. i do recomend re-jetting the main jet in the carb when de-restricting. go up 1 size i think i used a 260main jet. thats it, have fun but be carefull.
