1994 Suzuki RF 900 R Logo

I just bought a 1994 suzuki RF900, i was told that the previous owner purposfully drained the oil to have some minor damage looked at. So, naturally I tried putting oil in her and it all leaked out th

The bike was laid down going approx. 10 mph on the left side (if you were sitting on her) the fairings are messed up bad right where the crank case is there is a hole in the fairing, like a big rock tore a hole in it. that's right about where all the oil leaks out of.

It does appear to me that the crankcase must be holed somewhere. That is the moist likely reason the previous owner drained it (or rather it all ran out). I would have a good visual look at the crank case to see if there is an obvious hole. If it is damaged then it would obviously need a new crank case but first, take the fairing off and have a look.

SOURCE: I?m buying a 2000 Suzuki GSX 750 that was laid down

HI, I had a 2002 gsx600f, pretty much the same bike and I let a buddy of mine ride it and he came back with the oil pan cracked, turned out he tryed to ride a few wheelies on it and upon one of the landings the weight of the bike actually cracked the oil pan, they are extremly heavy compared to other sport bikes on the market. Ive never heard of an oil pan just cracking, more then likely it was user error.

SOURCE: fairly used suzuki bandit

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Most used 250s are ridden hard either as a starter bike or forced to max out playing catchup with bigger bikes. But unless abused, they tend to have longer usable life than the bigger ones. Often areas that would need your attention/check would be:

  • condition/level of the engine oil. An oil change would do no harm;
  • brake pads (front & rear);
  • carb and tank condition, A rebuilt/clean is a wise action;
  • sparkplug check/replacement. Note the color/condition of the ends of the plugs;
  • valve check/adjustment;
  • electrical system check which includes battery/terminals, major connectors (high amperage), regulator;
  • chain and sprocket. If adjusted against the stops, might be time for a replacement of the set;
  • fork oil seal.
Even if there are somethings you feel like needing work, the general judge wold be how you like riding the bike. Your body, sense of balance and riding style would dictate which if ever would need priority work/replacement/checking over.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: cracked frame

Suzuki replaced my frame about a 1.5 years ago.I was 3rd owner,9000 miles on bike,all stock and original except pipes.The only drawback was I had to pay for the labor,which was about a $1100. I knew the mechanic at the shop and they let me do the labor myself.The frame was cracked on both sides where the radiator mount screw into the frame.

SOURCE: oil leak from the front of the motor

Its funny you should mention this but yes, I had its bigger brother the GS 850 G , same problem, Apparently, in my situation I did the same thing and went to the shop and let those butchers make it worse !!!, the way i found my leak was by washing the motor with a grease and oil cleaner , strayed the whole motor and wash it all off totally, then I turn her on and let her get to operating temp went for a few mile and came back and checked it, for me it was the head gasket   the guys put on and i forced them to do it again,  I found out later that it was common with the suzi's of that model and ended up doing it myself, I used the original gasket and used a compound called gasket goo and it never leaked through out the 8 years i had it . But before you do anything , surly they gave you warrant y on the work so take it back and demand they do it properly.
Cheers and ride safe

SOURCE: wrecked 07 GSXR1000. upper front damage, missing

http://www.bikebandit.com/ http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/ http://www.drumhillcycle.com/ If racing only I would not waste time/weight on a speedometer, use a tachometer only. But you can try http://www.jpcycles.com/ for generic will fit parts. The airtech site has factory type and race only fairings and can suggest brackets needed. You can also try e-bay for a complete fairing setup w/ decals, will be the least expensive, and lighter weight than factory.

Standard oil was put in the car when I bought it whereas it had always had BMW approved synthetic. Will this oil switch damage the engine/other

Yes, it could damaged your engine,drain and replace filter with what kind was on before,always use synthetic oil,I take my Toyota tundra to dealer to get oil change,and they scan the whole system for free and give me a print out of the results,if something is wrong,they will tell me and how much or I can fix my self.That's the best place to get oil change,hidden benefits.They told me once my license plate bulb was burnt out,they replaced for a dollar.

How to attach fuel line and all hanging lines under gas tank

Its not easy to know what the wires are for. They could have been for an alarm from the previous owner which was removed. Is the bike running ok? Tape up the wires individually until their purpose is known. Here is a link to the manual where you will find wiring diagrams. Wires will be colour coded.
Rate me if this helps you, thanks and good luck with the new bike.
