For 2000-2004 Sportsters, there are only 7 different codes.
d01 - Speed sensor power output shorted low
d02 - Speed sensor power output shorted high or open
d05 - Speed sensor return shorted high
d06 - Speed sensor return shorted low
d08 - Speedometer power over voltage
d09 - Speed output shorted high
d10 - Speed output shorted low or open
I don't see your code here.

No sweat. Screw the idle mixture screw in until it "bottoms out". Do not tighten or you will damage the screw. Back the idle mixture screw out about three turns. Install carburator and check for proper operation.
When you get the bike running, allow it to warm up and then adjust the mixture for highest smoothest idle. Set idle speed to about 1000 rpm with the throttle stop screw.

SOURCE: I want to put a new battery in my 2004 harley

First check the manual that came with your motorcycle. I dont understand that you have to do anything to the exhaust. Remove the battery cover and you will see the battery. Take off the support bracket. Undo the positive and slide out the battery. It should slide out just enough to undo the bolt holding the neg cable onto the battery. then just slide out the battery. look at the neg cable where it is mounted to the frame. You should be able to see it peeking from the left side through the frame to the left side. I am only just replacing the battery on my 2004 1200 xl so if it only has 900 miles on yours you may want to trouble shoot before you do the deed. there is just enough room to charge the battery without disconnecting the cables using small alligator clamps on your battery charger. just slide the battery out as far as it will go and hook it up. I hooked up an accessory electrical plug for my bike and i was able to charge my battery with a tender. I just replaced the alligator clamps with a cigarette lighter type plug and stuck it into the accessory plug and it charged it with no messing with the battery. Just think it through and you can make it work. disconnecting from the frame is alot of work to feet the cable back through after you pull the battery out. good luck

SOURCE: if I change the head gasket on my 1200 harley should I do the base gasket too?

YES, you should always do base gaskets when you do head gaskets, the reason is, when you untourqe the head bolts, you do disturb the base gaskets, you have just releived the pressure on them needed, once you do that, its not worth risking it. you should never untourqe that gasket and retourqe it.

Bike just quit, will not crank. I have gas and plenty of battery. I changed both plugs. I suspect no fire from the coil. But I;m not sure how to troubleshoot the coil.

Pull the spark plug wires off the spark plugs. Get another set of spark plugs and put them in the wires. Make sure the spark plugs are grounded to the engine, turn the switch on and press the start button. You should see the plugs spark as the engine turns over. On another note, if your bike is equipped with a carburetor, you may have fuel in the fuel tank but none in the carb. In 1996, Harley went to a vacuum operated fuel petcock and they give problems. The diaphragm in the backside of the petcock gets a hole in it and it will not open and allow fuel to flow to the carb. You can have a full fuel tank but not a drop of fuel in the carb. The petcock can be repaired but you'll have to drain the fuel tank and remove the petcock. I usually suggest that the petcock be replaced with a high quality manually operated petcock like a PIngel. You'll have to manually turn your fuel on and off old school style but you'll solve that problem permanently.

Good Luck

Cpould you please tell me where are the ground wires on 2005 xl 1200c. Also, same bike has 34000 miles all stock, except big ******. started acting like carb problem earlier this year. I am in NW corner...

it sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. You have a VOES switch on that bike. It's located behind the switch on the left side of the bike usually. There is a vacuum hose that comes from the carb and goes to the VOES switch and the vacuum operated petcock. Check the hose for cracks.

Also, I have seen the vacuum operated petcock do the same thing. Somehow it starts sucking air around the diaphragm creating a vacuum leak. You can take the petcock apart and inspect the diaphragm and replace it if necessary. I'd rather replace it with a high quality manually operated petcock like a Pingle or something.

Good Luck
