SOURCE: The battery on my 1995 Yamaha Virago 250cc is not working

starter brushes could be worn out or a dirty or loose connection!
Starter button may need checking also the solenoid
week compressin or leaking diaphrams in carbs will cause it too
I suggest you charge battery & start at the button & work your way back

Poulan 38" riding mower.

Battery is likely dead - or has built a sediment bridge - shorting the anode and cathode.
Jump-start the tractor with your vehicle - or another battery to check.

Or - use a multimeter to ensure your battery is not draining to 0V when you attempt to start.
This also indicates a failed battery. It may have a decent float charge - but when the load starter) is applied - the voltage will drop right out.

I changed the battery in my 2005 F150 super crew today. Now when i let off of the accelerator it chokes down and shuts off. Not sure what the problem could be. it happened riding down the road and idling...

Hello, This happens alot. To fix this, you need to fully charge the new battery before you install it. Although you have a 12Volt system, the battery needs to be at 13.2 to 13.6Volts for a full charge.

You will find that the battery can quit charging even at 70MPH. The reason for this problem appears to be a combination of two features on Ford vehicles. The Battery minder is an automatic cutoff Feature for when headlights or another drain exists in the system. The Battery minder makes a mistake and reads the charging of the low battery as a drain and disconnects the charging system. The other Feature is the Anti-Theft control, which can reduce Starter voltage and interfere with other electronics to make sure your truck does not go far if stolen.

Even if you jump start a Ford with a low battery, it can automatically disconnect the charging circuit within 2 or 3 minutes of removal of the jumper cables, unless the residual Voltage reads a full charge.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you. If you have a Voltmeter on your dash, glance at it once in awhile until this problem disappears.

My battery is draining fast on a full charge. Will start and ride for a little then will stall and not turn on again. I have checked wires and the batterie is good. What could be draining the battery...

It sounds like your bike is not charging. The headlight is draining the power. Locate the plug coming out of the motor that has three yellow wires. This is the alternator output. Check with a voltage meter. You should have continuity between all three yellow wires and no continuity between any of the three wires and ground. If the alternator checks OK then you probably need a new regulator/rectifier.

G'day,i have a 05 wr 450, when out riding my battery went flat, the old girl still had balls for a while then i lost it , felt like she was missing, would the batt cause the the bike to lose power ?...

charging system has failed. In that case, the battery will run the bike until it's dead. If you can shut off your headlight, it my go a bit farther, but you need to fix the charging system.

Took my bike out, WR450f 07 model, got to the shop...

If the battery is no good , this can cause some of the problems described, as the charge system tries to put out as much charge as it can, and not be able to charge the battery.
Try a volt meter on the battery, should be around 12v engine stopped and rise a couple of volts with the engine running.

Charging system can't keep up with lights 2001 v-star 1100 classi

Hi Dalemcin,
I had simillar problem,
what I did is I checked the level of fluid in battery and noted that it was drain ( probably evaporated, because the weather temp. where I live is above 40 C) so I replenished the battery with destilled water. Now it works perfect.

1998 valkrie wont turn over

Your battery is most likely the cause. The tail light and dash light do not draw much juice from the battery. However the headlight and starter are a different story. Are you absolutely sure you turned everything off before you took your break? If you are and you don't ride your bike a lot you should get a trickle charger for it. Use it when not riding. It will prevent you battery from completely losing it's charge thus protecting the battery.
If you do ride often then you should have the battery tested. You may need a new one. Remember that once a battery has been drained too low, permanent damage can occur.

Craftsamen 18.5 hp battery keeps draining

Either the battery is not being recharged when the engine is running or there is a current drain when stopped. If you are not knowledgeable about electrical tests you can check for current drain by disconnecting the battery negative cable when not running. If the battery stays charged then you need to find the current drain. To check for no charge when running, turn on the headlights with the key on but engine stopped. Start the engine and see if they become somewhat brighter. If brighter, the charging system works. If not, there is a problem in the charging system which needs to be confirmed with a voltmeter.

Battery not holding a charge,

Check the charging rate of your bike, see if its system is charging, if it does charge thn theres somewhere the battery is getting drained out.
In order to see if tht is happenning, switch off everything and thn remove one battery wire on the battery, after doing so try to fix it back and notice if theres any sparks when it comes to the contact of the battery terminal , if so thn theres a drain somewhere in the electricals and wiring.

Good luck.
