There is a slight **** when I accelerate my car or release foot off accelerator. I have had a new distributor cap and leads replaced and new spark plugs. If I release foot off accelerator then apply again it gives a short **** even if I have not used the clutch or brake. This also happens when I change gear, especially low gear change. I dont know much about cars and have no idea what else it could be. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Does your car seem to be down in power compared to what you would consider normal? If yes, I would get the MAF checked, and probably cleaned. New one is like 400 bucks, but they are easy to clean, and then act just like new again. You just have to be careful and gentle, cause if you should happen to break one of the sensor wires, its done. Otherwise, it sounds like its in the master computer, but isn't too serious a thing. Financially wise. When you release the accelerator, does it react immediately, or do you have to depress a few times before it seems to respond? Good luck.
if clogged it could build pressure as u accelerate and then release as you remove your foot from the petal the acceleration is due to the left over fuel in the system
after checking fluid level is correct, try this, to see if it improves...
into drive, let car accelerate without any gas(do not touch pedal)to max speed (about 30/35mph).stop,then with 1/3rd gas pedal, accelerate to max speed(do not move foot)stop, then foot hard to floor, upto about 60mph,then stop.then only using a max of 1/3rd gas pedal, drive for about 15miles.you have just reset the drivetrain computer setings....the car is fitted with a computer controlled fuzzy logic gearbox,it will try to make you drive as eco as poss, but if used harshly the gearchange can be harsh up and down.....
if driven gently 4th will engage at 43 mph, with a slight clunk.
This problem needs a trained eye to check it out. There are shops other than the dealers, but please do take it in to a reputable shop.
This is one you want to make sure is fixed right and someone needs to look at what's going on with your car... Highly recommend it soon.
