SOURCE: Static Timing
or the stator backing plate. Reply With QuoteIf you have the larger 2K-3 ignition the stator has an insert with a single hole in one of the slots to fix the timing. This can be seen in the photo I posted in the DC conversion thread. If you have a 2K-2 the M5 holes in the cases for the 2K-3 will be unused. The upper hole will be visible. If an M5 cap screw and 12mm OD flat washer is snugged down in this hole, the stator plate can then be rotated until it contacts the edge of the washer. The 2K-2stator plate bolts should then be just off center in the slots. This works out well on the 250 and I think the timing for the 300 is the same.,,,

You can find generic information at: http://www.dansmc.com/valve_timing.htm
Or downl;oad the service manual from http://pdftown.com/Yamaha-YZF-R1-2000-Service-Manual.html
Good luck! Not too hard once you have the engine out of the frame.

SOURCE: how to tune the timing chain
crankshaft at tdc, cam sprocket marks in proper position with locator marks on engine, ( this usally means on single cyl the valves will not be loaded by the cam) front of cam chain taught, proper tourque on cam caps realese cam chain tensioner, rotate engine 360deg slowly by hand with spark plug removed, then re check cam timing is accurate..

The spark will fire at top dead center and you can see it with a timing light or in the dark with the spark plug removed from the cylinder head but still connected to the coil wire and grounded against the motor (don't hold the plug or you will feel a shock, hold it by the rubber insulator.

Timing chain marks??? Or marks on your cams?? On the cams you should have 2 marks on each side of your cam sprocket. They should be even with the top of your jug...
