Battery goes dead after running 20 miles.
Not really enough info to diag this problem but a good educated couple of guesses would be the regulator went bad or the magneto went bad or? the battery is loose and or disconnected the screws routinely rattle out of the threads if that turns out to be the case just put thread lock a glue type stuff around the threads then tighten let sit overnight to cure...but my true guess is either magneto (big job) or regulator not such a big job except where to find it on your bike give more info so I can help nail it down please

chek your connection where the alternator plugs into your engine casing & spray it with electrical contact cleaner

Get access to the battery terminal posts, star the bike and set the meter to "Volts DC". Touch the leads to the positive and negative posts and see what the meter reads. If the voltage is between 13-15 volts then the bike is charging, if thats the case the bike is charging but your battery is hooped. Start with that and if the bike isnt charging then write back again for trouble shooting instructions.

You didn't mention if you charged the battery in- or out of the bike. If H-D has a modern alternator, it may have failed diodes that are draining the battery and stealing charge current if charged while connected. If the battery was made in China . . . oh, well.

Have the battery checked. may not be holding a charge and is discharging during use. all seems to point to poor batt status
SOURCE: I have a 2007 VN 900 bike has approx 11500 miles
then your stator or regulator is bad on your bike.
